This figure of Katsuragi Misato was manufactured by Union Creative, she has been released by the end of November 2018. The figure was adapted after an illustration from the Neon Genesis Evangelion calendar 2015. The sculptor isn’t mentioned and also not the scale, but the figure measures 18 cm in height, I would guess that she is scaled 1/7.

…while it’s more common to pick Asuka or Rei as favorite, it has always been Misato for me.

As captain and commander of the EVA pilots at NERV she is doing a very good job and appears very capable.
In her freetime Misato drops the serious and determined act and actually is a cheerful and upbeat person with a likeable personality. Of course everyone in Neon Genesis Evangelion has his own share of problems and so does Misato, but it doesn’t get in the way of her daily life.

She is the Onee san type who tried her best with taking care of the mentally conspicuous EVA pilots, Shinji and Asuka as commander and as well as legal guardian. After a while she develops feelings for Shinji, yes those kinds of feelings.

While I can’t say that I liked anything about End of Evangelion itself “this was an adult kiss… we do the rest later, when you come back” was a great scene. Isn’t it really too much to ask for a happy end later!?

The Neon Genesis Evangelion anime show means a lot to me. It was the first “real” anime I’ve ever watched, I discovered it when I was a little depressed, things at school weren’t going well and everything appeared a bit bleak overall. While especially this show isn’t portraying a positive world, I really enjoyed watching NGE and it honestly made me feel better. It influenced me a lot and paved the way for my late but still lasting excitement for anime.

In the year 2007 the NGE franchise was brought back to live again with a series of movies that retell the story and lead it into a new direction, starting with Evangelion: 1.01, which I really enjoyed. The following movies were Evangelion: 2.0 and Evangelion: 3.0, the latest one was a bit strange and needs getting used to. The last part Evangelion: 4.0 is scheduled for 2020.

The figure mainly follows the illustration face appears to be more based on the original NGE character design from Yoshiyuki Sadamoto with the pointy nose. Misato wears a cute innocent expression with small almond shaped eyes and a small mouth. A few angles doesn’t flatter her face very much, but overall this Misato has a good looking face.

The hair looks indeed beautiful, it’s nicely sculpted and a has a nice shade of black and blue. Especially the curly back of her long hair looks great. Around her neck Misato wear her necklace with the big silver cross that she

Without a doubt this figure has a fanservice oriented design, partially she wears her working uniform, jacket and pencil skirt, albeit combined with an attractive black bikini. The coolest part is her red leather jacket, the wrinkles and shading create a great used look. The opened and pulled down skirt also looks nicely detailed with it’s silver button.

I have no clue why Misato is presented in such a way, but I can’t deny that her pose looks really cool. I like how one of her pumps is hanging down from her carefully sculpted fingers, in the other hand she holds a detailed gun. Her feets are very detailed with the separately sculpted toes and their articulation.

The figures tilted hips and arched back accentuate her petite, but beautiful body with modest although quite nicely shaped boobs and a quite attractive butt. You really notice that Katsuragi Misato is based on a 90’s anime, her body is attractive and portrays the proportions of a slender japanese woman in a realistic way. If Neon Genesis Evangelion would have been invented a decade later we would probably have a more curvy Misato today.

Final Words

Overall I like this figure a lot, beginning with her nicely articulated and interesting pose and the nice looking outfit in addition to the attractive body. The face didn’t exactly turn out like the prototype implied, but it’s still more than presentable. According to Misato’s backstory there should be a scar somewhere around her chest, on the figure it’s not present though. The sculpting and paint on my copy is nearly flawless, there is only one small white line at the right corner on the back of her bikini’s bottom. In my opinion this adaption of Katsuragi Misato looks good and also with a few imperfections she is a nearly great figure.

Hey people time for a new figure review this week – it’s about the beautiful Stocking.

Anarchy Stocking was manufactured by Alter and released in October 2012, the figure is scaled 1/8 and has a height of 20 cm. The origin of Alter’s Anarchy Stocking is the unique but quite plotless anime Panty & Stockingwith Garterbelt popular for it’s raunchy kind of humor.

With a more elaborate animation style I probably would have enjoyed it a bit more. The style looks crappy; it might have been kinda awesome with the nice look of the anime style I’m used to. What I liked the most in Panty & Stocking was the heavy cursing and the nice Stocking.

O wicked spirit born of a lost soul in limbo;

receive judgement from garb of the holy virgin;

cleansed from wordly impurities;

return to heaven and earth;

Repent!

She is the younger sister of the slutty Panty, in the show I got used to her attitude a little better, but well at the of the the day I prefer more cute and modest girls. Stocking is not that interested in sex, her only weak spot is unhealthy food and sweets, which she eats all day. She has a nice body nevertheless, Stocking always claims that the fat only goes into her boobs XD

In her everyday life Stocking is at home at the gothik and emo scene and wears a gothic lolita dress. This figure is based on the sequence in the show where she and her sister transform into ghost hunting angels who try to collect Heaven Coins to get their halos back.

Hair & Face

The hair of this figure is made from one piece in a quite impressive delta shape. The lack of seam lines is pretty nice and the purple color is pretty and the pink inside has a vibrant effect.

The hair is made of soft PVC and overall the sculpting looks good, even though there are a few bumbs and light scratches in two or three areas. What obviously went a bit wrong with this figures hair is the color transition from pink to purple at her fringe. In the outer strands they managed to paint them with more attention, but in the middle it’s not painted very clean. Other buyers of this figure had the same flaws. Well, since the gaps between the strands are only 1 mm width it’s a problem that only is noticeable from a close distance. Im not bothered.

Underneath her fringe she has nicely green slanted eyes, these are very attractive and give Stocking a more adult appearance. I think that Stocking is a really pretty girl, which is mainly noticeable in the anime transformation scene. She has a foul mouth, but she still has this kindness represented in her face, the kind smile is really something I like about this figure.

Outfit & body

This figure is presented in her “battle” dress which looks similar to a magical girl outfit. It is a very fancy and fashionable outfit with many details and nice colors. Her boobs seem to be a bit too big for her top. The sculptor overdid it a bit since it looks kinda uncomfortable how the strap digs into her meat, but nevertheless Stocking presents her female attributes with pride.

Stocking has a full rack and shows it with her pose and the hair, the cleavage is mainly covered and doesn’t shout for attention. Alter is known for often choosing the save way.

Slightly below she is wearing a detailed corsage and the grey painted area around her belly has a slightly transparent look. It’s cute how her belly button sticks out ^^. I really like the skirt, the voluminous, short design with the transparent underskirt is simply beautiful.

As the name implies Stocking is wearing striped stockings, which are also her main weapons and can be transformed into a katana. Her stockings are a striped model with open ends at her feet. The blue parts have beautiful light and dark shading, further below the ends show some nice and detailed wrinkles. Her feet and toes are exposed and she is wearing stylish sandals in a platinum metallic like color, it’s the same kind of sandals as her sister Panty has

Her outfit is very appealing, also the smaller details, like the ribbon and the wings on her back. Other nice details are her finger less gloves and the pretty armlets around her wrists.

Stocking has the body of a young grown up woman in her twenties. I really like her body proportions and the nice sculpting. Stocking has a proud and charming pose, her arched back and the slightly turned position of her upper body gives her something very attractive, with her voluminous hair and the proud self confident pose Stocking looks like a powerful woman.

She has such a strong presence, she looks like the gang leader on my 1/8 scale figure shelf.

Final Words

Alter’s Anarchy Stocking is a really nice figure, she actually is in my personal Top List of the figures which I’ve received this year, she has a fancy outfit, a sweet face and looks beautiful. While I’m not a big fan of the show, I admit that I love the design of Stocking and her outfit.

This figure reminds me why I started collecting figures, a fancy outfit with many details and a beautiful and proud appearance is where Stocking excels. Aside from the slightly unclean painted fringe this figure has a pretty paintjob and great sculpting quality.

Today lets take a look into Medaka-chan’s box …bahahaha  … sorry for the bad pun XD

Medaka Box is a 12 episode long anime that was adapted from the manga written by Nisio Isin, who also was the original creator of the great Bakemonogatari, on first look you won’t notice his influence, but a few traits can be found. Medaka Box aired from April till June 2012.

This anime was produced by Gainax, when I think of that name I actually expect something awesome, in the past Gainax was known for creative and great anime like Neon Genesis Evangelion, FLCL or Gurren Lagann. In the last few years they came around with in my opinion quite forgettable animes like Dantalian no Shoka or Panty & Stocking, ok the wild cursing and the power puff girls look was unique, but the story could have been better.

After the intro blubbering lets see how Medaka Box actually performed in these 12 episodes.

Medaka Box appears as a rather simple school comedy show, the busty main heroine Kurokami, Medaka is the newly elected student council president of Hakoniwa Academy. She is a smart, energetic, cheerful, but also an eccentric and slightly crazy person. With her new job as student council president she helps the students in need 24/7 and 365 days in the year, who place a request in the so called “Medaka Box”. Among the students she is very popular and is considered as prodigy, she is pretty, has big boobs and excels in every aspect of school life and sport.

Medaka is also a real philanthropist who likes to help other people no matter if they are normal students or hopeless delinquents, nevertheless because of her attitude, image and skills, a small group within the school hates her with passion, at the beginning of the anime also her childhood friend Zenkichi has doubts about her, he actually thinks that she’s a self righteous person who likes to stay above other people. After watching her doing good things for other people and noticing her true intentions his opinion about her changes. He joins the student council shortly afterwards and helps Medaka with her work and silences the ones who are opposing her.

This first season can be considered as introduction for further seasons, in the first 9 episodes the show mainly shows centers around lighthearted school comedy where Medaka and Zenkichi are solving problems, dealing with delinquents or recruiting new members for the student council. Medaka Box doesn’t try to appear like an elaborate anime, even though there are amusing and lively dialogs between the characters, aside from that the comedy offers some good laughs.

Afterwards there occurs a little genre shift from happy go lucky school comedy to action.

The characters in Medaka Box are well done, next to the omnipresent Medaka, Zenkichi and the other two members of the student council, Kouki and Mogana are also likeable and interesting.

Zenkichi is a refreshingly tough male lead character, he doesn’t rely on the strength of Medaka and also shows no timidness to disagree with her opinions. Even though yo can’t deny that he seems to have a little crush on her.

Shiranui is no member of the student council, but a close friend of Zenkichi, she might look cute, but she isn’t cute and has a mischievous personality, but Zenkichi is on good terms with her.

After the Disciplinary Comitee’s and Medaka’s ideals collide after a small coincidence hell breaks loose, and the student council faces dangerous opponents, Medaka is forced to unleash her hidden powers to protect her important friends. Without negative judgement, much logic can’t be found in the final part, instead we see badass action, students with crazy powers and lunatic students. You might wonder where the teachers, police or the damn JSDF are in such situations.

technical aspects

Medaka Box has a decent animation quality, there is nothing especially bad about it. The art style is quite different from the usual anime, the backgrounds and the overall look is rather comic like and simple. The faces of the characters could have been a bit more detailed but they have an attractive adult look.

The voice actors are very well chosen; Toyosaki, Aki made a good job in voicing Medaka and Paku, Romi was great as insane villain. The OST was nothing special, as well. Ok, the opening “Happy Box” hurt my ears that I skipped it, but the ending song “Ohanabatake ni Tsuretette” was ok.

 Final Words 

Medaka Box is a solid shounen anime with entertaining comedy and some action near the end.
At first the random problem solving might appear boring, but when you get the flow of this anime, the characters with their funny antics and the last 4 episodes will make up for the slow start. When you are looking for a more complex and elaborate anime, Medaka Box is the wrong title for you, but in the category of unusual lighthearted comedy it has it’s entertainment value.

The anime adaption more or less captured the happenings till chapter 22, there are around 151 chapters of the Medaka Box manga. Another season might improve my first impression of this show, I’ve heard that there will happen some more things in the manga after chapter 22.

Lets see if Gainax will invest more into this franchise, I would like to see a 2nd season.
