Today’s figure post is about Souryuu Asuka Langley – Shin Seiki Evangelion – Gothic Lolita ver :RE made by Kotobukiya. It was a gift from my dear friend Miette-chan Figure Photography. I always kept an eye on this figure, but other orders always took the budget for this gorgeous figure away, so I ended up with not ordering the Asuka Langley – Shin Seiki Evangelion – Gothic Lolita ver :RE figure.

Weeks later I received a package from the States and I was just speechless when I looked what was inside. This figure of Souryuu Asuka Langley – Gothic Lolita ver :RE, also had a rerelease in 2020 and 2021 it was sold for 12,800 Yen. Asuka is scaled 1/7 and measures 18 cm in height, she was sculpted by Itandi. This figure is a reissue of this Souryuu Asuka Langley – Gothic Lolita ver. figure from 2004.

Yeah, well it is an old figure, compared to things that have been made before 2010 figure sculpting and manufacturing took a big leap and nowadays figure collecting is not the niche hobby as it used to be.

I like the updated version a lot more, the smoother facial features are much better and it looks like a sweet Asuka. In this figure adaptation Asuka is dressed in a frilly gothic lolita outfit, albeit it’s not something would wear on many occasions, but it suits her very well. The gothic lolita outfit turned out quite nice, it’s a copy from the old 2004’s Asuka, with the new version though, it has, as to be expected a more detailed design. More folds and wrinkles were added and there is a generally more appealing appearance present now.

As base Asuka comes with a quarter cut, weathered looking staircase with lots of cracks, it’s damaged condition is adding a nice touch and atmosphere to the Because it is not as detailed as on frontal view,
you rather don’t want to look too hard from other sides. I like the way Asuka is resting on the steps, her feet are placed on different steps which puts some focus on her pretty legs with the pretty thighs and thin ankles. With the right hand she is playing around at her skirt, the left arm just hangs downwards lazily with the elbow overstretched.

The main color of the figures outfit is a dark blue, which is present on her corsage, gloves and stockings.
A curiosity on her outfit are the holders at the corset, they look like weapon holsters in my eyes.
All the borders of the outfit are decorated with a frilly border basically everywhere. Asuka is also wearing a four layered white skirt. She is wearing black shoes with blue ribbons. The white choker around her neck is decorated with a red ribbon, the element with the ribbon was repeatedly used at the twintails and sleeves of the dress.

Asuka has an impressive twintail hairstyle painted in carrot orange. The face of this young lady is very expressive with her big blue eyes and her slightly shy gaze is directed to the left. Her character design follows the style of the movies, were Asuka has soft facial features and a generally cute appearance without pointy nose or chin, like in these animes of the 90’s. Overall this is a beautiful figure of Asuka, I really like the cute and round face with the expressive eyes.

The gothic lolita dress appears nice and elegant with it’s combination of red ribbons, white frill and blue are interesting, although some details of the dress could be a bit finer, since it’s a 1/7 scaled figure the frilly parts do look good nevertheless.

Asuka is of courseone of the main characters in Anno, Hideaki’s masterpiece Neon Genesis Evangelion, I have been a big fan of NGE since the day it came into my life and paved my way to the anime sphere.
I loved the pre or actually post apocalyptic setting, were mankind brings together everything they have to prevent complete annihilation.

The religious elements and complex symbolism were really interesting and I liked all the heavy technology that was used to defend against the overwhelming threat.
Every character had some serious issues, nowadays I can relate to this more than in my teenage years.

I was really happy when the new movies were announced, Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone and Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance were a nicely retelling of the anime’s plot with a different direction and nice additional content. Since Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo involved a drastic time skip and had other problems in general I was no fan of it and would honestly say it’s bad for the most part. When Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time was announced I was extremely worried that it would be a bad conclusion for the story, but to my surprise it had been a wonderful final, some unnecessary, budget burning fight scenes were there, but nothing was really bothering me and I was happy how everything came to an end.

In summary Souryuu Asuka Langley – Shin Seiki Evangelion – Gothic Lolita ver :RE is a nice piece of NGE merchandise, you’ll receive a beautiful adaptation of the Asuka character, I think it’s a great idea that she was combined with this diorama base. She was posed in such a way that shows a cool atmosphere and highlights some leg and thigh highs fanservice.

This figure has been released earlier in 2018, I didn’t know who she was, but I really liked the concept with a cute girl carrying a huge flag, it’s totally adorable, isn’t it ^^. She was sold as limited figure on Animaru.

Fortunately I spotted her again in the November bargain bin of Hobby Search for a good price

Karasuma Chitose was manufactured by Stronger and released in July 2018. She has been sculped by the skilled Itandi. The figure has been listed as 1/8 and measures 200m in height without flag.

The figure is based on the style of Ohara Tometa and therefore looks especially sweet, but her real origin is the manga and recently aired anime Girlish Number. I watched it after I had received the figure.

In this story Karasuma Chitose is a fresh anime voice actress with a questionable personality, which has been a little shock considering the cute appearance of the character.

She gets a leading role in a mediocre anime that gets a second season later. The show was funny, but also strange, it had a lot of sarcasm about the anime industry.

She has a very pretty head, the face of the figure is very detailed and gives Chitose a lively look.
She is such a cute figure, her open mouth is nicely sculpted and her the super detailed eye decals are fantastic.

Like in the anime the characters hair has a brown to purple gradient, the strands and hairstyle are very pretty and is decorated with a prussian blue Alice band quick and a sunflower.

In the show Chitose was always wearing the same clothes, but this figure adaptation shows a very nice outfit.
I really like the happy and summerly direction of her outfits coordinate, a bit of an maritime design.

She is equipped with a blue striped tank top and a white shoulderfree shirt over it.
At her lower half she is wearing a beautiful, frilly 5 layered skirt in an appealing prussian blue color.

The lacy ribbon with the sunflower attached to it, is a very nice detail. At her feet she has red socks and white sneakers. The base is a simple white disc, but that doesn’t hinder the figures appeal. The figure reveals a bit of skin thanks to her breezy outfit without being too daring, although at the backside her skirt is a bit short :D.

Chitose holds a flag pole with both hands, the flag attached to it is nearly as big as the figure, unfortunately I can’t tell you what is written on it.

Final Words

I’m very happy about this figure purchase. The figures quality is quite excellent and Karasuma Chitose looks so adorable, all the details of her face bring the figure to life. The character design has been adapted very well, the figure looks like the anime counterpart, although you can’t notice Chitose rotten personality at all haha. I also like her cheerful and light outfit, everything looks great I’m a big fan of the colors and stronger use of shading.

The figure was released on January, 28th. On time without further delays, which became rare in this industry.

Takagi-san was sculpted by Itandi, the figure is scaled 1/7 and measures 16cm in height. She is sitting at her desk, it’s a great idea to present the figure in such a picturesque way, combined with the detailed school furniture.

I instantly became a fan of Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san, I like “first love” settings a lot, because iat the young age it is pure and very sweet. The manga based anime adaptation is a romantic comedy that consists of short stories.

The main characters are Takagi san and her friend Nishikata. Takagi san often lures Nishikata in for him embarrassing situations, not in a mean-spirited way, but much to her amusement. The poor guy often tries to counter her teasing, but that always ends in defeat for him. While being no match for her pranks, Nishikata would never abandon her. Her affection towards him is obvious, he has yet to realize his feelings for the charming young girl Takagi san.

The desk and chair look very good, like a realistic miniature of the mass produced school furniture that you would probably find in every japenese school. I like how the book and workbook are placed on her desk and the super detailed writing in them is also very cool. The smaller utensils on the table also look nice and adorable.

I actually fell in love with the charming young lady, her laughing is really enchanting and she has a beautiful smile. Nishikata and Takagi san attend the same class, but she seems to be more mentally matured and smarter than him. Nevertheless she finds interest in him and enjoys when they spend time together. To lure him out of his comfort zone and shell she uses her teasing and pranks, to some it might look mean, but it’s just her set of tools to get close to him.

The figure is an adaptation of her first appearance in the anime, where she observes what Nishikata who sits next to her is plotting. It’s a casually charming pose and the figure wears a curious expression on her beautiful face.

The manga, that is illustrated by Yamamoto Souichirou features a very cute character design with a big head, the simple yet pretty hairstyle reveals a big forehead, she also has nice thin eyebrows and big hazel brown eyes. The mouth is wide, it’s level of detail is really great. Her lively face is adorable and has a certain mischievous element.

Takagi san wears a nice looking sailor based school uniform with a white blue design, the short sleeves indicate that it is the summer version. There’s also the red tie and the other things a school girl should have.

The figure is sculpted with an convincing articulation, her arms rest on the table with the right hand she supports her head. It’s nice how her left forearm rests on her workbook, the workbook has been sculpted with an cavity for it.

Final Words

I’m really happy about this really great figure of Takagi san ♡. Itandi and Phat Company really pulled it of to adapt the sweet 2D character into a figure. It’s been some time since I’ve watched an anime as sweet and enchanting as Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san. I’m quite pleased about everything about this figure. Unfortunately I’m too old for her, but fortunately it’s just anime and I can happily accept her with open arms as my waifu, she is a lovely character with a wonderful personality. I would buy a matching figure of Nishikata, would be cool if Phat Company had plans for it.

A second season of Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san is at least planned.
