What I also liked was the Seikatsu Micchaku Shuzai Special Figure (Lifestyle Total Coverage Special Figure) lineup from FuRyu, where Sonico is portrayed in a variety of daily life activities. Those nicely made prize figures were more focused on Sonico’s cuteness than her being sexy dynamite. The Sonico – Sweets Time version was my first figure that I’ve bought from FuRyu, that review was from 2014 though, last christmas (2017) my dear sister gave me another figure from this lineup, the Sonico – Chatting Time version. I was happy that my sister remembered that I really like Sonico.

Since 2014 Prize figures constantly improved in quality and some even rival a few of the big manufacturers adaptions, of course not because of perfect quality but when there is one thing those figures show their appeal it’s creativity and nicely articulated poses. Recently I was quite impressed by an Kaede prize figure that fellow figure photographer Miette purchased and photographed. Prize figures of Love Live Sunshine currently look more interesting than the announced figures of the top manufacturers, it’s amusing, but I nevertheless also hope to see figures of Aquors in fancy and pretty idol outfits at the upcoming Winter Wonder Festival.

Sonico is sitting on a pillow with her legs placed on the floor, in this pose she measures 140 mm in height.

The figure has a nicely articulated pose, portraying a everday scene of a girl having a chat over the phone. The vintage telephone gives the figure additional charm, as well as the green teddybear that she is holding in her arm.

For the pictures I used a backdrop that I’ve build for last years Maid Ami figure and took a few things out of my figure furniture box and created a cute room for Sonico. The sweater dress of the figure has an attractive design and texture.

Sonico’s face looks very cute with blush marks and crisp eye decals, her face also wears a quite expressive facial expression. It seems like Sonico listens to something exciting or maybe she heard some shocking news over the phone right now. Her hair looks good with the backside being especially smooth and the pastel pink gradient is just beautiful.

Of course Sonico also is sexy, in her shoulder free sweater she has a pretty cleavage and nicely shaped legs.

Overall it’s a nicely sculpted and nicely painted figure, the colors have an appealing saturation the sculpt leaves a very good impression, on closer inspection some areas are slightly rough, but you could display the figure with pride.

I don’t purchase many prize figures, eager collectors are always in need for space and I rather would order an expensive figure to put it on the shelf honestly. But I might make an exception for anime characters I really like ^^.

Anyway, even with a limited budget one doesn’t have to live with unappealing figures, prize figures nowadays can be both appealing and affordable

The next prize figure review,the subject of review is another Sonico figure, but it’s from FuRyu.

Super Sonico – The Animation is still fun, her random adventures are fun to watch and she’s so damn cute. The friendly environment Sonico lives in, the slice of life characteristics and all of her acquaintances and friends are quite charming. She appears a bit too fragile sometimes and becomes flustered easily, I hope she can overcome this at one point.

Sonico Sweets Time version was released in November 2013, no scale was mentioned, but with a length of 180 mm she’s around 1/8 scale. I ordered her because it was refreshing to see a figure like that, chilling on a couch, a really creative creation for a cheap figure.

For just 1.590 Yen you get a cute Sonico figure. a plate with donuts, and a nice pink sofa.

FuRyu already made and planned a number of appealing Sonico prize figures like a Teeth-Brushing version, a After Taking Bath version or a  Clothes Changing Time version. All of them in a similar style, that portrays Sonico in rather natural situations. I actually  don’t intend to get more of these cute prize figures, but the After Taking Bath version looks really interesting.

This figure here shows Sonico chilling on her sofa while zapping with the TV remote  and eating a donut. She is dressed in comfortable clothes, cuddly socks and shorts and a simple tank top…

Hair & Face

Sonico’s hair is long and flows over the couch, the hair looks a bit more chunky and not as fine as Taito’s Space Police Sonico, she has a strong color gradient. The bangs have nice strands, it seems like I was  lucky again and received a relative clean copy, I’ve seen pics where her bangs were really rough. There is still a little roughness at certain points when looking more closely.

Her headphones have a nice shape, but the thick paint on the silver parts and really rough edges at the black belt, shows the difference compared to a full price figure .

How is such a cheap figure possible, I ask myself,  the figure and the accesories consists of 15 parts,  pressed and probably even  painted  by a machine, what’s left is connecting the parts and maybe cutting off excess material, which causes low labour expenses. After I’ve once read what Pakistan workers earn for sewing an complete official Fifa football, I was just shocked. I hope the diligent Chinese who assemble our top tier figures are paid well enough to make a living.

The figure has a cute, nicely sculpted face with an interesting expression, that shows the girl immersed in watching TV. Sonico has detailed and cleanly printed eyes, there are also eyebrows and blush marks. The open mouth is sweet and shows an upper front teeth line.

Outfit & Body

Sonico is wearing a sweet outfit, it’s not as revealing as her usual outfits, it’s something much more innocent. The white shirt has a number of wrinkles, she is wearing it in a shoulderfree fashion, that shows her proud cleavage, Sonico can’t be Sonico without being a little tease.

Her short, light blue shorts resembles something like Nicki terry cloth. the warm, thick socks closely follow the silhouette of her feet which looks quite convincing together with the folds and texture. The shirt is a little rough at the outer edges, socks and shorts only have some smaller seamlines when you take a close look.

Also as prize figure Sonico has a nice body, the skinparts looks very well sculpted. Also the articulation appears really convincing from her legs to the joints of her fingers, I was impressed. Her butt isn’t flattened which is nice. The pose is supercute, she is lying sideways on her sofa with her legs in air, eating donut. The skin looks soft and has good opaque tone.

Accessories

The additional items this figure come with are really cool, since they aren’t glued to the figure, so they can be used without the figure. The pink sofa is made of ABS and has a deep seat for Sonico’s butt. The shadows are shaded with airbrush. A plate of donuts is also included, these parts are glued together, the detailed sugarcoat give them a tasty, realistic appearance.

Final Words

In summary FuRyu made a nice Sonico prize figure with cool accesories, the pose is creative and has good articulation, done with attention to detail. With her cute face and the comfortable clothes she makes an adorable figure, nevertheless the Sonico is not free of flaws, seamlines, thick paint and a light roughness are the things you have to expect when getting a prize figure .

Compared to the Sonico Space Police from Taito this Sonico appears closer to a normal run figure. While Taito’s Sonico had a really nice and cheerful expression and finer hair, the overall quality of the Super Sonico – Sweets Time version is better and slightly more elaborate.

It felt like ages since I’ve reviewed a figure of my favorite 2D girl, I didn’t lose interest but the recently released figure where not what I wanted, especially not that giant rubber doll with the soulless expression. The announced figures for December and next year look really promising.
I already preordered ALTER’s Sonico – Santa swimsuit and Orchid Seed’s Chearleader version.

In December I’m eagerly  awaiting the release of the 1/5 scaled Sonico – SoniComi Package version from Orchid Seed  (　＾∇＾). In the meantime I received a lovely prize figure.

There have been a burst of interesting Super Sonico prize figures recently, Taito and FuRyu created really nice ones like this. Sonico figures don’t always recreate her character very well but the one in this review does.It’s Premium Prize Super Sonico – Space Police version from Taito.

Let’s face it prize figures never seem to compete with regular ones, at least that was my opinion.
But I liked the grey prototype of this certain one that I took the gamble with 1590 Yen at hand.

Sonico – Space Police arrived in a very pretty no window box, I actually prefer solid cardboard boxes over windowed ones. When you buy them in a shop you would like to take a look at the figure of course, but like me, the majority buys the figures based on promo pictures anyway.

Sonico – Space Police was manufactured by Taito and released in the middle of October. Here is a picture of her how she looks straight from the box and put on her base, no scratckes no broken parts. Sonico has a nice curvy body squeezed in a modified pink police uniform, she greets us with cheerful salute. With 20 cm in height she can be considered as a solid 1/8 scale.

That’s the figures overall appearance, her outfit looks cute and sexy at first I thought  her outfit  would blue, but it turned out to be pink, which also suits her very well. The figure skin doesn’t seem to be overcoated with paint, it seems to be straight out of the “parts printer” machine, nevertheless they maintained a good looking skintone with a matte and opaque look.

The police uniform looks nice on Sonico, her shirt is quite open and exposes the impressive bust, her belly is exposed and her skirt also seems to be very short. I really like her nice looking hat on her, in case you are wondering about the logo, Taito is somehow connect with the old Space Invaders game. It’s a detailed outfit with a realistic police uniform design, it shows nice wrinkles and folds overall. It’s simple colortheme  consist of pink, yellow, white and blue.

The broad belt of the figure looks especially well ssculpted and has pair of handcuffs attached.

Im positively surprised by the quality of the hair, it has very fine fluffy strands and a nice flow to it, these seperated strands give it a dynamic look. The color shows a gradient from light pink to a darker tone of light pink. Under her police hat Sonico is wearing her regular set of headphones, also quite detailed. Sonico’s face is really adorable, it  captures the happy, childlike innoscense of her character very well.  I also like her lively eyes with strong blush underneath, the facial expression is completed by a cheerful big smile with an upper front teeth line, really cute.

Of course Sonico looks as buxom as she is supposed to be, she features broad hips, a wasp waist and a rather impressive bust. Not to forget her meaty thighs which are accentuated by these white stockings, they have a little pearl shine texture applied. The body sculpting is done in a conving way, even on the backside, it’s sexy how her buttocks are slightly flashing under her short skirt. Taito also did a good job on the articulation of her arms and fingers.

The figure is surprisingly well made, on closer inspection there a few minor seamlines at the sides of her clothes and body, not really noticeable on first look, but on second look, there is a little overpainting from blue and pink at the end of her shirt and a little roughness at her shirt.

Final words

I have a little better opinion about prize figures now, they are not always of crappy quality, often these kind of figures appear more creative than regular releases.

This Sonico – Space Police figure has a very good sculpt and is posed in an cheerful manner, on her clothes there is no active shading present, but the details and wrinkles make up for it.
Sonico as cop looks very cool, cute and really sexy. The most important thing is that the figure resembles the character and thats definetely the case here.

Of course there is a quality gap between prize figures and regular releases, since they have less budget for manufacturing, but for 1590 Yen you can’t find a nicer Sonico than this with a decent quality, I like Sonico Space Police a lot. I also ordered the Sonico – Sweets Time version from FuRyu, hopefully she will leave a positive impression as well
