Welcome to Wieselheads anime corner, I never was especially good with such posts, but it’s nevertheless always fun for me. In this post I will talk about the recently aired Ao no Exorcist:  Kyoto Fujouou-hen, a show from the Anime Winter Season 2017. I always was a fan of stories about the devil and demons in general, back in 2011 there once was an awesome anime called Ao no Exorcist, a show that I would even count as one of my favorites, it left a unforgetable impression on me.

Surprisingly in 2016 it was announced that Ao no Exorcist would get another anime adaption, after 7 years, still I was overjoyed after reading the news. The first adaption was filled with lots of original content to make the anime 25 episodes long. Strangely the new anime Ao no Exorcist – Kyoto Fujouou-hen is no complete sequel and didn’t continue where the old one ended, it was more like a re – roll after the first quarter.

Okamura Rin is the son of Satan, but together with his little brother he was adopted by an Exorcist and raised in secret as normal child. After some dramatic events Rin enters the True Cross Academy, a school for Exorcists with his whereabouts officially kept secret. The old anime was a really nice show, I loved the cast and atmosphere.

Ao no Exorcist is a straight shounen show with brilliant action and emotional aspects, in Ao no Exorcist – Kyoto Fujouou-hen, one chapter of the manga has been adapted, it begins after Rin revealed his demonic form to his classmates and teachers, the truth also reached the higher ups and Rin must take responsibility, but in the end he gets another chance. Nevertheless in the first episode his classmates literally shun him and have high distrust. Rin is a little ingenuous, but actually a good boy with a big heart.

During the arc this anime is about, the class takes an excursion to Kyoto, also to solve the case of a very dangerous stolen demonic item. During their stay at the local temple, things escalate

The re roll seems to be a weird idea, but in my opinion the new one is also a great anime, it kept the good points of the old one and does certain things better than it’s predecessor. Ao no Exorcist:  Kyoto Fujouou-hen has a slower pace, but at the same time it feels more elaborately directed, be it the detailed interactions between the characters or the detailed view on their personalities, their motivation and problems.

The story had many interesting sublots, most prominently Rin must master his demon powers to win back the trust of his classmates and Suguro must deal with his weird father. A smaller part is about Shiemi, who has to find the confidence in herself again.

Kyoto Fujouou-hen makes good use of everything that is interesting about the genre called “shounen”. It has comedy, good action and most importantly it should make the viewer share the emotions of the characters in times of happiness or while they struggle in agony or against obstacles that appear larger than life. I really like the realistic portrayal of these teenagers and their problems and worries. Although it is fantasy setting these problems are quite transferable into a realistic context.

After I’ve watched over Rin and Shiemi I really could feel where they are coming from, the most rewarding moment with such things is when the characters can overcome their problems with effort and some good fortune in the end, after they walked the long road of defeat. These things are motivating. Although In the real world most things depend on luck and fortunate events, nevertheless a positive attitude and believing in the own strengths is always the first step. Such shows often have the ability to boost ones motivation and are a reason why I still watch anime.

This anime has an interestingly told overaching plot, nicely interwoven with the big and small sublots,which leads to a very powerful, action packed an exciting finale.

Haha and applause for the wonderfully made epilogue, I’ve rarely seen one like this.

Considering that they adapted only one arc so nicely in Ao no Exorcist – Kyoto Fujouou-hen, I would like to see more content adapted in the future. I hope
Aniplex and A-1 pictures still have interest to make another adadaption like this.

The current animes are near the end, so it’s time for a look at the Ending Songs of Anime Summer Season 2015, which in my opinion were extremely good this time. Sometimes the Songs in Anime are just there for the sake of having one, sometimes it’s a masterpiece

I’ll pass on the best Opening Songs, sine GANGSTA. with “Renegade” by Stereo Dive Foundation won. I also liked Gakkou Gurashi! arcade plastic pop performed by Mosaic.Wav.

My feelings for Charlotte as a whole are a bit ambivalent, especially since episode 11, but it has an awesome Soundtrack overall …ZHIEND!

“Yoru no Kuni” (夜の国) by Annabel

GANGSTA. is quite strong this season, the setting is very exciting and there are enigmatic characters. This lovely Song carries a lot of emotion. The animation focuses on the somewhat washed up main characters, together with the music this creates a strong atmosphere.

“Hello Hello Hello” (ハローハローハロー) by Good Morning America

I feel a little old for Dragonball, not as old as the voice actor of North Kayo, though. I still have fun watching Dragon Ball Super… The song is great!

I guess I hate the Ranpo Kitan anime more that I enjoy it with all bishoujo murdering psycho’s, but it has both good OP and ED. I like how Sayuri shouts it out, like a storm…

“Afterglow” (アフターグロウ) by Maon Kurosaki

In the further episodes of Gakkou Gurashi! this song starts to fit perfectly to the atmosphere of the show. It’s rather sad but carries a glimpse of hope for our girls. Please don’t die…!

“One Light” by Kalafina

Every Anime with an epic setting needs a Song from Kalafina, it seems. It’s not my favorite Song from them, but still good. Arslan Senki was best in the first half, but still very exciting.

To me this Durarara!!x2 Ten anime plot is all over the place now, but I still keep watching it to the end. It’s a very good Song.

This second season of  Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai delivers a good continuation with some surprising events, after Yukimura turned out to be girl and the perverted scientist Rika turned into a quite charming girl, Kodaka is in the middle of a difficult bishoujo harem.

In the latest episode 10, there was a great scene between Rika and Kodaka happened on the rooftop, where Rika told him to make up his mind about a cerain thing. She actually said

“I think it’s time you take a step forward. Afterr all, we’re already all …”

Well, I had to think about the words the viewer didn’t receive in that scene, it could be…

1. “in love with you”

2. “friends”

3. “waited long enough”

I would set my bets on the first choice, since it seems obvious that all the girls are in love with him. Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai NEXT turned again to be much different from other harem anime, first Kodaka wasn’t the generic, stupid harem lead and now one of the girls tells him to make up his mind.

For the first time we see that Kodaka, actually wasn’t dense about the feelings of these girls, but he didn’t want to face it. He enjoyed to have the Neighbours Club members around him as friends, lets be honest aside that all of them are a little weird and that there sometimes was some fighting, they seemed to had a lot of fun with their activities. Kodaka appears to be scared of the side effects if he decides for one of these lovely girls, he is scared of loosing the bonds which were made up to now and that these times of lighthearted fun will vanish from his life.

I can relate to him a little, once I had a female childhoodfriend (yeah that is not only anime fiction) as things got more serious with the childhood friend I had the same doubts as him, even so I was totally in ove with her I feared that things would change. Well, but I guess it’s even harder if more than one girl is in love with a boy. Kodaka doesn’t appear to be someone who wants to break hearts. I think all the girls of the Neighbours Club are very adorable:

There is the demure Yukimura, who is cute as hell, but since she’s not that talkactive, her chances are rather low. She also doesn’t act very ambitious in getting Kodaka’s attention.

Yozora is a little problematic character and is a little hard to deal with, but recently the number of defeats she gained torwards Sena thinned out her hard shell and made her more vulnerable, her dere dere side is quite lovely I have to say.

It turned out that Sena was also a childhood friend with Kodaka and their parents even set up a arranged marriage for them. Sena’s wins over Yozora, changed her a bit and now she is more self conscious. Well, I don’t have to mention how pretty she is.

What surprised me in this season is that Rika became an important character, I always liked the crazy scientist, but now she turned into a much more charming person and also Kodaka seems to really like her, since he complimented her through this whole season. He never did that with the other girls.

Howeve things will turn out, I love this anime Im looking forward to the next episode even though I doubt that we see any real decision in that season. Go Rika Go Rika!

The anime autumn season is going to end soon and it’s time to make a concluding post about it.

I will talk about all the shows I’ve followed in this season. It was an overly entertaining season packed with cool shows for me and I would consider the shows listed here as recommendable.

In this post I will give my impressions about the settings and overall experiences I had with each of these shows with nearly over 3000 words this is one of my longest posts.

Busou Shinki

Production: 8bit, Sentai Filmworks – Started: October – Episodes: 13

After the Busou Shinki short stories Busou Shinki Moon Angel, this anime takes place. Tsubasa is now a high school student who lives on his own with his Shinki’s, tiny robots with a human like AI, they can be used as assistants or fight in virtual tournaments when equipped with their battle equipments. Tsubasa lives together with his first Shinki Ann and Lene, Ines and Hina who arrived later. The intelligent Shinki’s are acting very human like with all kinds of emotions but they are always quite attached to their “master” and love to get his attention and caring.

Busou Shinki is a futuristic slice of life anime and the viewer follows the lighthearted, entertaining and also diversified daily life adventures of Ann, Lene, Ines and Hina. It is fun and also enchanting how these small robots interact with eachother and their world. This anime offers a lot of fun and cute entertainment. Since Tsubasa don’t to use his Shinki’s for fighting, there is a reduced amount of fights, but there are also situations where they have to fight.

The Busou Shinki girls are totally adorable which is also influenced by their fantastic voice actors.
Studio 8bit offers a good animation style which is cute and pleasing for the eye with it’s cute character design. I like this show a lot and it was one of my favorites in this season.
It’s a very cute and enchanting anime with and about  the Busou Shinki characters.

Medaka Box Abnormal

Production: Gainax, TV Tokyo, Lantis – Started: October – Episodes: 12

After the OK first season, big boob heroine Medaka returns with more over the top action.
With all the intro coverage done in the first season, Medaka Box Abnormal is even more awesome and action orientated. New more powerful enemies surface at Sandbox Academy.
The Thirteen Party want to turn the students as samples for their Flask Plan experiments, to create the perfect human being. To save the students from danger the student council members Medaka, Zenkichi, Kouki, Mogana infiltrate the levels under the academy.

To access data about the Flask Plan the team has to face members of  the  Thirteen Party.
In a Dungeon like manner the student council members gets deeper inside and fight new opponents, who are equipped with creative and weird superpowers. The plot is very much author driven, he does what he wants. it’s quite awesome how logic defying the story is while still making sense. That might not be everybodies taste, but the explanations of all these characters superpowers is simply hilarious. I haven’t see anything likes this in ages.

This second season of the Medaka Box anime also takes a deeper look into Medaka’s past and her family situation with her brother and sister introduced. Also the relationship between Medaka and her friend Zenkichi is portrayed more detailed. A big part of this show are great fights, but the smart and cool dialogs are also an entertaining factor of Medaka Box Abnormal.

Girls und Panzer

Production: Actas, Lantis, Movic – Started: September – Episodes: 12

Girls are driving tanks, Yeah! In this anime girl schools around the world are taking part in  tankwondo tournaments where they fight tank battles against each other. The tanks are WWII vehicles and shoot with real ammunition, but to ensure that no person gets hurt and that the tanks won’t get too beaten up, they are especially modified. This sport is very popular and is advertised as as an martial art, that turns girls into polite, graceful, humble and brave women. The cheesy propaganda tone from military draft in times of WWII is intended.

Our main character Miho Nishizumi, the daughter of a famous tankwondo obsessed family joined Oarai High School to make sure that there was no tankwondo activities. Unfortunately as luck would have it in this certain year the school decided to revive their tradition in order to fulfill the ambitious goal of winning the tankwondo championship and to regain their value as school. Miho who already made some good friends, is forced to join the tankwondo team by the student council. In order to get ready for their first match, the girls have to find and repair the nostalgic tanks which were hidden somewhere on the school.

At first it is totally amusing how the very feminine girls get used to their heavy and rough equipment, but under the lead of Miho the Oarai High platoon takes shape and experience. In a number of battles they prove that they are no amateurs. The tank driving as well as the battles are portrayed in a very convincing way with nice portion of technical knowledge overall.

The members of tank “Anglerfish” Miho, Hana, Saori, Mako and Yukari good girls who support each other from the bottom of their heart. Everyone of these characters is portrayed nicely with their individual little quirkiness and background. Girls und Panzer somehow reminds me of K-on!!, Chu-bra and Upotte! but without the silly fanservice of the latter two, fortunately.

Another good point of this show are the detailed CGI tanks, of course it’s a little weird to see cute girls driving in partially former Nazi equipment. But the anime stays quite neutral about such things, it even makes cute parodies about national cliques. With the deadly purpose aside, I actually think that old tanks are somehow cute, they look like tiny beetles ^_^.

Girls und Panzer is funny, cute and charming and an interesting alternative version of “cute girls doing cute things” anime with enchanting characters (like Mako^^) and very good animation quality in terms of characters and tanks. Also the military march musing has a big appeal.

BTOOOM!

Production:  Madhouse Studios, Sentai Filmworks – Started: October – Episodes: 12

Main character Ryouta is an expert in the online game called BTOOOM!, but in real life he’s a lazy NEET, who lets out his social anger at his parents. One day Ryouta finds himself stranded on an unknown island, which alone doesn’t sound that bad, but he and a number of  other people have to play BTOOM! for real with the danger of loosing their life. All the people on the island have been nominated by other people ,who wanted to get rid of them for some reason.

So as a kind of lottery the game company choose a few of nominated people for this game. Each person is equipped with different kinds of bombs to kill other “players” in order to escape from the island. The players have a handy radar gem to locate enemies, these gems are the trophy and the person who collects 7 gems at first will be transported to Japan again.

Ryouta isn’t really willed to kill humans and rather wants to find allies, soon he is able to find two people who join him, first an old man named Taira and later a beautiful girl called Himiko. She is pretty weak and scared most of the time, but with her blue eyes and curves she’s really pretty eyecandy and triggers the protective instincts of Ryouta and the (male) viewer. Ok, now that’s a bit mean Himiko is an adorable character, she’ just not the type who likes to play with bombs.

This show feels slightly inspired by Lost and The Hunger Games, maybe partially inspired by Sword Art Online as well. This anime also shows what happens if producers of an online game gone mad. In comparison BTOOOM! manages it’s story in a less black and white manner.

These show portrays the ugly sides of human nature in a good way, a little exaggerated and really violent, it does a good job in creating a thrilling and ominous survival game scenario.

The animation style looks very appealing in terms of the beautifully island landscape as well as character design. The manga is fresh and still ongoing and therefore this show is only 12 episodes long, yet it offers a satisfying end with an indication of a possible continuation.

Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!

Production: Kyoto Animation, Lantis, Pony Canyon – Started: October – Episodes: 12

The main theme of his anime is the 8th grade syndrome, where middle school students partially escape reality with creative  fantasy delusions. They imagine themself as warriors from a occult world who have superpowers. Main character Yuuta has ended his 8th grade syndrome before graduation and now remembers his delusional behavior only with sheer embarrassment.

On his first day of high school Yuuta gets in contact with Rikka, a petite, cute, eye patched girl who is on the climax of her 8th grade syndrome, also called Chuunibyou. She refers to herself as wielder of the Tyrant’s eye. Even though Rikka is really weird, Yuuta starts to hang out with her. Soon Rikka founds the “Oriental Magic Napping Society In Summer” club and a few more funny and interesting people join the club for different reasons. Kumin, Sanae, Shinka and Makoto.
All of the them are likeable, Shina who was a horrible person turned into a lovely caring girl.

At first Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! mainly appeared as hilarious comedy about her friends and Rikka’s crazy antics, but as the story progresses we also get sweet romance and touching drama, that explains why Rikka is still a Chuunibyou. The pacing is good, but with only 12 episodes one can’t deny that this anime is compressed storyline.  With Kyoto Animation in charge the visual quality is very good with nice surroundings and appealing characterdesigns.

Being a Chuunibyou appeared like a lot of fun in this anime, it was a show that I’ve enjoyed a lot, even though I’ve heard that it differed quite a bit from the Light Novel material.

Production:  Starchild Records, GoHands, The Klock Worx – Started: October – Episodes: 13

In a slightly different present a artificial created gene surfaces in certain persons DNA, they referred to as king of a certain color, they turn into leaders with special powers. This this story starts when the red king with his delinquent gang clashes the blue king with his military organized SCEPTER4 unit. But the story actually is more centered around main character Shiro, who lost his memories and finds himself hunted by several King factions, after a video was shown all around the city, where a person who resembled Shiro killed a certain king.

This show was my secret favorite among the others, while it excels in style and presentation there are some flaws due to a 13 episodes restriction. There is a real goth loli with foretelling powers, a sexy and energetic nudist cat girl and lots of other cool characters. From an objective point of view I can’t deny that the show fails at explaining things properly, it might not be a bad idea to leave some thinking to the viewer, but I expected a little more support, since the story starts in it’s second quarter. It was possibly intended like this, but turned out not that satisfying.

Overall it is a interesting shows, even though it feels too short it has a good pacing. The big city setting has it’s special charme and the state of the art animation style is made of awesome.
The characters are also interesting, but theres no time for a deeper portray of them, Neko for example keeps being an airhead with cat instincts most of time, I expected a bit more from a main character. Well, at least she is friendly, looks cute and has a sexy body nyahhh XD

Zetsuen no Tempest

Production:  Bones, Aniplex, Dentsu, Square Enix – Started: October – Episodes: unknown

In this anime a cult of magicians plans to revive the Tree of Exodus, what could destroy the world. Since their female leader Hakaze was against it, they exiled her on a lonely island. She could trick the cult by contracting with Mahiro, a boy who recently lost his sister and parents.

Hakaze promised that she would find the murderer of his sister, if Mahiro would help to the stop awakening of the Tree of Exodus. Mahiro does a good job as bishounen antihero, he is self centered, arrogant and overall a real delinquent, but pretty awesome. While not very sociable Mahiro has one friend he trust, it’s name is Yoshino, who later joins Mahiro and Hakaze.

Hakaze is still on the island, but she can communicate via a wooden doll telephone. To fight against the members of the cult, Mahiro and Yoshino make use of talisman which are hidden at certain locations. With these talisman they can perform magic tricks for a limited number of times. After they gathered enough items they head to the location where the tree of exodus should be revived.

What makes this anime special, is the very well done setting of a dying world. The gloomy, melancholic atmosphere is great. A few back flash scenes and the not so easy relationship between Mahiro and Yoshino accentuate the tension in this story in a very good way. The animation style looks top notch and also the epic orchestral soundtrack sounds very good.

Aside from some great action scenes Zetsuen no Tempest also has a lot of clever dialogues that portray the  ideals the characters believe in. There is also a number of interesting twist, surprises and revelations, so that you can’t clearly say who is right and who is wrong in this story.

Little Busters!

Production:  J.C. Staff, Key, Warner Bros. – Started: October – Episodes: 26

Little Busters! is probably one of the best known visual novels and this year it finally got and anime adaption. This anime centers around the very close friends Riki, Rin, Masato, Kengo and Kyousuke. Without question Riki is the main character, he lost his parents at an early age and suffers from narcolepsy. His friends helped him to overcome these hardships and their encounter with Riki draw all of them closer to echother. Now these kids are planning to build a baseball team as kind of fun activity, but they have to recrute more members to form a team.

At first fans were a bit angry because  J.C. Staff was in charge of the project, cause in general visual novels from Key are adapted by Kyoto Animation. But even though  J.C. Staff messed up the last season Shakugan no Shana, they are a good studio and so far they did a very good job with the Little Busters! Every episode so far was very nice and heartwarming.

As in most visual novels the main character solves the problems of the cute girls he encounters. Little Busters! also has this formula as well, Riki is in charge of recruiting girls members and comes in contact with interesting person, but a budding romance isn’t what this anime wants to tell in the first place. More obviously it portrays the worth of true friendship and persons you can trust from the bottom of the heart. Slowly the Little Busters grow in numbers.

Next to the plot and character driven episodes there are also some more fun driven episodes in between. In most case you would call these episodes filler, but it is really a lot of fun to watch these group of friends. There are many animes that portray friendship, but only a few had reach the quality of such a natural feeling and honest friendship like Little Busters! It is a touching show with a vey good animation quality. I’m looking forward to the next episodes to come.

Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo

Production:  J.C. Staff, Genco, Media Factory – Started: September – Episodes: 24

The main character is Sorata, a second-year high school student at Suiko, because of his liking to stray cats he was thrown out of the normal dorms, since that day he lives in the Sakurasou dorm for students with special needs. Sorata  lives next to a womanizer, a shut in and a upbeat weirdo girl oh and of course his cats. These people might appear weird, but they are very talented in their department. A new inhabitant arrives, a girl from England named Mashiro.

She’s actually an exceptional art prodigy who came to Japan to learn how to make manga. The problem is that Mashiro always painted, but never learned much about common sense or how to take care of her own. So Sorata is assigned to take care of Mashiro, the mother of weirdness.

As Sorata’s tsundere childhood friend also moves into Sakurasou dorm, because of financial problems the chaos is perfect. The comedy is really entertaining with all these weirdness, misunderstandings and relationships. It’s really nice to follow the characters in this anime.

Aside from all the hilarious comedy this show also has a more serious side. Most of the characters in this anime are at a point in life, where they have to decide what they will do in their life. They go through many hardships, sometimes they fail at crucial moments and they feel inferior to people who are more gifted with talent in their degree. I guess it’s something the viewer can relate to. It’s one of the reasons why this show is so popular. This more real side of this anime is something I really didn’t expect after watching the first few episodes.

Shin Sekai Yori

Production:  Aniplex,  A-1 Pictures, Pony Canyon – Started: September – Episodes: 25

The story is set in a distant future, society as we know doesn’t exist anymore, now humans live in a simpler low technology world. Small numbers of people in small villages, it’s a Shintoism maybe it’s also is partially Budhism society were everyone seems to live in peace. In school the children are learning how to use their Cantus, a kind of  telekinetic and telepathic power humanity developed through selection. Even the younger pupil already can do impressive “tricks”. The main characters of this show are Saki, Satoru, Maria, Mamoru, and Shun.

As one of their classmates suddenly vanished, Saki sense that something isn’t right. Things escalate, after they broke a few essential rules of their society during their summer trip in the wildlife. There they’ve learned a bit about events from the past. With the progress of the story the characters and the viewer learns more about the not so peaceful new world. There is a timeskip in this show after the first big adventure of the kids we see them again as teenagers.

Shin Sekai Yori is a scary anime with a really creepy atmosphere, nearly more that I can handle.
But it is a really interesting show, where the viewer doesn’t know what will happen next.
The animation style looks kind of simple compared to other shows, but I have to say that it is befitting for this show. Also the ancient music does a good job in supporting the feel of terror.

Im also watching Magi, but I can’t write more for today *phew*

Hi people don’t worry or should I say don’t be pleased too quickly, Wieselhead.de isn’t dead yet. Studies, figure delays and a completely messed up time management put my blogging activities on hiatus, how sad. But let’s forget about it, today I will share my impressions about the shows I’ve watched in this Anime Summer Season which is more or less over.

I’ve followed Rinne no Lagrange 2, Oda Nobuna no Yabou, Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita, Hagure Yuusha no Estetica, Tari Tari, Kyoukaisenjou no Horizon II, Yuru Yuri ♪♪ and Arcana Famiglia.

I’ve heard that Kokoro Connect is very good, but I had no time for more shows.

Arcana Famiglia

Ah this one was the dissapointment in this season, Im not known for being picky with my anime, but this show completely went downhill after it’s first episode. The Arcana Family is a kind yet mafia like organization who rule on the island of Regalo. The first episode started quite promising, where the main heroine Felicità and her loyal henchman chased some criminals through the streets. Later that day Felicita’s father, also the head of the Arcana Famiglia announces a game, the arcana duello. Every member of the Arcana Famiglia has mystical powers that are derived from tarot cards. The winner will be the new boss and also marry Felicità, the only daughter of the current boss, against her will of course. Well, this duel only takes place in the last episode.

This anime has a reverse harem setting so the majority of the cast are males. All of them have different personalities and are kind of quirky, but calling that show a reverse harem would be too much, aside from her attendant Luca, Liberta, Nova and the cool Debito who would jump on any senorina, no one is really interested in getting close to her. They are too old for her, anyway.

Before the arcana duello happens the story mainly follows  Liberta, Felicita and Nova through pretty random events where they try to get better control over their arcana powers. It feels more like the writers stumpled until the final than a good paced show with an interesting storyline.

It’s not the fault of the characters, that this anime felt so disappointing, with a different more action orientated setting this could have been something far more interesting and entertaining.

Yuru Yuri ♪♪ – Second Season

Shortly before I started watching the second season, I quickly marathoned the first one. It was a quite amusing slice of life comedy, even though not the best out there. Next to the daily life adventures of the 4 girls, Akari, Kyouko, Yui and Chinatsu, who have the occupied former tea ceremony club room, Yuru Yuri shows several examples of friendship and one sided affection between middle schoolers with a little Yuri (lesbian) influences here and there.

This time the side characters Himawari and Sakurako play a bigger part than in the first season.

Yuru Yuri was always more of a lighthearted comedy, while there were a few scenes which portrayed the friendship between the girls in the first season, in the second these scenes became even more rare in favor of more comedy. Personally I liked this kind of humor a lot, only the scenes where Akari was mistreated annoyed me. I became quite the Akari fanboy, she’s so cute. I’ve fallen for this kind and cheerful little girl who gets no real attention of her friends.

In case you liked the first season, you should enjoy this second season as well, except you expected some character and story development, that doesn’t really happens, but it’s hilarious comedy nevertheless.

Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita

In the future decreasing birthrates downsized the number of humans who are living on earth. Now there aren’t enough skilled people to maintain the former high tech infrastructure and the people live in a low tech environment. The niche the humans once had was taken over by fairies, tiny, shy but friendly creatures. Our main character is Watashi also called Okashi-chan, she works for the UN as mediator between humans and fairies.

She is a very pretty kindly voiced girl but also very smart and able to easily look behind peoples facade. A nice character trait of Watashi is, that she isn’t as friendly and innocent as her outer appearance implies her sarcastic remarks are fun to watch. In her job she is guided by her grandfather who has an affection towards firearms, she also gets help from her silent asisstant.

In the first half the viewer is introduced in the crazy world of this show. The fairies can do several unbelievable things, which are helpful for humans, but sometimes they also like to play little pranks. The fairies are a pretty weird bunch, at first they appear very creepy, but as the story progressed these creatures turn really adorable. Not only the fairies are portrayed, there are also crazy individuals under the human inhabitants of the town where Watashi works.

Most stories are told from in a narrative fashion from Watashi’s point of view. In general each episode contains a single story, but there were also stories which filled two episodes. The episode aren’t really in order, so the second half mainly centers around Watashi herself, these episodes portray events from the past where the viewer learns how she became the person she’s today.

Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita was an refreshingly creative, surreal and crazy anime with nice pacing and good timed comedy moments. I found it to be very entertaining with it’s queer characters, unique settings and strangely funny dialogs. The animation style is nice and bright with pastel colors and offers an appealing character design. It was one of my favorites in this season.

Hagure Yuusha no Estetica

In every season there is one anime with lots of ecchiness, Hagure Yuusha no Estetica is one of such shows, but handled things in a slightly different manner. The anime starts when the main character is going to leave the world of Alleyzard after he helped the Queen. Back in our world Akatsuki is accepted at a kind of shady international training organization named Babel which protects and makes use of young people who returned from different worlds. Akatsuki took something from Alleyzard with him, Miu the daughter of the demon king, he ones defeated.

Akatsuki promised the demon king to protect his daughter. In the new world Akatsuki wants to give the shy and insecure Miu a normal life with fun and friends. His methods to accomplish that are more than just odd, even though he has good intentions, he always involves Miu into embarrassing situations where he gropes her boobs or does slightly sadistic things to her or other girls from the cast, ecchi fanservice galore. The first few episodes are rather lighthearted with some comedy and fanservice here and there, but in the middle it starts to get a little bit darker with some more action. The main character was quite unusual to see in an anime.

In the last few years, anime has tortured us with a number overly wimpy and pityful male lead characters but in this show we get to see a different kind of lead character. Akatsuki is a pretty strong, skilled and confident guy with a cool, alpha male delinquent attitude. He can’t use any magic, but he can alter the flow of energy around him. The female lead character is Miu, she’s cute, but she’s quite clumsy and a not very confident girl, seeing her falling for Akatsuki ecchi tricks makes her a bit pityful as well. I’d really that she gets more confident in the future.

Aside from the manly main character, the anime was nothing really new, but entertaining at least. It ended in an open more promising way, another season would be interesting even though it seems as if there could be material for more than 12 further episodes since this anime is based on a light novel. I liked to watch this show even though it had some flaws.

Tari Tari

This anime of the summer season, portrayed the daily life adventures of five teenagers before their graduation, we followed Konatsu, Wakana, Sawa, Wien and Taichi.

Most of Tari Tari’s storyline consists of these teenagers who are pursuing their dreams and ambitions and overcome many obstacles which get into their way during these last months of their highschool life. The story begins after one of the female main characters, Konatsu was bullied by the choir club advisor who won’t allow her to sing anymore and so she quits the club.

Being someone who loves to sing, she wants to create her own club. Konatsu, Wakana, Sawa, Wien and Taichi end up in this club. At first they barely know eachother, but soon they grow together as friends. At first it appeared as if Konatsu would be the main character, but her position was taken by Wakana very soon, who seems to have lost her liking for music and any other sorts of fun a girl of her age should have after a tragic turn of events in her past.

The story of Tari Tari had a very good pacing, these 13 episodes felt quite long in a positive way. Aside from Wakana’s story there were even more touching moments, but also entertaining comedy. One of the bad parts of the the anime is that it doesn’t take it’s male main characters seriously, even though they have their own stories they remain bystanders for most of the time. Due to its length of just 13 episodes it would have been difficult to cover even more events, but nevertheless I would have liked to see some more group activities and also some romance. Anyway it has been a nice anime with a very appealing animation style and touching stories.

Oda Nobuna no Yabou

One day during a battle in the Sengoku period a boy from the future named Sagara Yoshiharu finds himslf in the middle of two fighting warlords. He was saved by the Oda Nobuna party, unlike in other animes that took place in this period like Sengoku Basara, Oda Nobunaga is no devilish bearded man,  it’s a pretty blonde tsundere girl voiced by the lovely Itou, Kanae.
In these alternative most famous warriors and warlods are young female’s of different age.

Because of the many historical games he played, which took place in the Sengoku period, he has a huge amount of knowledge about battles and the outcomes of certain decisions. After showing good results Sagara becomes an advisor of Nobuna in order to make her dream of uniting Japan come true. Except two girls all of them approach him in a tsundere fashion and is always called monkey. After he showed good results he is still monkey, but Nobuna comes closer to her goal, but the higher she comes the more enemies gather in the rest of Japan, who are after her life.

When going outside Sagara is often grouped with the loli warriors of the Nobuna clan, Oda Nobuna no Yabou has quite adorable loli characters in the cast, well thats an understatement.
I’ve rarely seen anything as adorable like them, but aside from being cute they are capable individuals with nice personalities and impressive fighting skills. Aww Goemon and Hanbei were my favorites. The older ones were quite adorable as well, but aside from being strong warriors most of them are still girls with innocent and fragile feelings.

This anime is categorized as romantic comedy, which is true most of the time, but in the battles it can get quite serious and people die.

I was loking forward to this anime from MADhouse since it was announced and I wasn’t dissapointed by it all, it was a very cool and entertaining the setting was also a good part of this show, the only thing I could complain about is the short length of 12 episodes I expected it would be longer. I hope there will be a 2nd season and nice figures of the Nobuna Clan girls.

Rinne no Lagrange Season 2

This was the final season of Rinne no Lagrange with the story of Madoka and her extraterrestial friends Lan and Muginami. I admit that I don’t really remember much from season one, to give an entirely fair judgement to the overall anime I have to rewatch all the episodes again, soon.

Anyway shortly after Lan and Muginami left earth in the last episode of season, the conflict between Le Garite and De Metrio escalated and both sides want to use Madoka and the power of the Vox unit for their purposes. Lan and Muginami have been kind of brainwashed by their brothers, the rulers of these two planets, to catch Madoka before the other party does.

Rinne no Lagrange always was a mix of cute girls doing cute things and mecha, while showing less action than before this anime is still very cute, it’s very nice how the friendship of these three is portrayed. This anime has its serious moments with some mental faces and blood, but overall it’s quite lighthearted and fun to watch most of the time. The first season left some open questions most of them were answered even though these revelations could have had more impact.

With “Marble (マーブル)” as Opening Song and “Jersey-Bu Tamashi!” as Ending Song,
Rinne no Lagranne provided great songs befitting the atmosphere of this show.Juding from my impressions from this second season I liked Rinne no Lagrange a lot, there was no real villain and no yuri marriage in it this anime which might have been nice, but aside from that it was fun to watch and it had a very satisfying Happy End.

Kyoukaisenjou no Horizon II

I really underestimated Kyoukaisenjou no Horizon at first and labeled it as weird and shallow anime with ridiculously big boobs dropping it after 3 episodes. Well, after I’ve heard about a second season I gave it another try and realized that my first judgement was totally wrong.

The creative concept of it is just awesome. It’s quite the infodump at first, but once you understand the setting a bit, there are rarely shows that reach this level of entertainment.

Aside from showing an new chapter the second season isn’t much different from the first season. This seasons events center around the floating city Musashi that arrived at England in order to make an alliance or at least getting another Armor of Deadly Sins in order to restore the emotions of Horizon. Aside from Musashi and England also Tres Espana is involved, in order to follow the Testament Tres España is preparing its own armada for war against England.

A very good point of Kyoukaisenjou no Horizon is how it’s characters are portrayed, even though 13 episodes don’t appear to be much to give screentime to a large number of characters, but it works surprsingly good. Most of them even some of the (evil) Tres Espana ones are very likeable. With Mary Stuart we get a very sweet and appealing new character ^^.

It is fun to follow the sidestories of these individuals, like Tenzo’s love story or Malga who lost her confidence for example. The interaction between the characters of Musashiit really feels lika a real close class community. Next to the actually serious plot this anime has a lot of comedy in between, be it funny dialogs, slapstick or some Otaku culture references.

Kyoukaisenjou no Horizon also offers very good action scenes in combination withe impressive animation style this looks really wow! I also like the different fighting styles and special abilities each character has. This anime has a fast paced, not to be confused with rushed storyline, if you pay attention it all makes sense, even though it’s nearly impossible to get a hold of all these small and big events on first watch, so I will watch it again like I did with the season before.

Hi there, todays post is about the anime shows of the winterseason 2012 lineup I recently started and enjoyed so far. Without further ado here are my short impressions about each show.

Another– P.A. Works – 04/12 episodes

Another is a suplimal spooky horror anime, with a deep and slightly scary atmosphere.
Im glad that it is done in a sublime way without *in your face* horror and silly emo faces.

In the spring of 1998, the 14yr old Kouichi transfered from Tokio to the rural town, Yomiyama.
He had the luck to be put in the class of weirdos who seem to hide a creepy secret from him.

One day he meets Misaki, a mysterious girl with an eyepatch, she tells him that it won’t be good for him to get in contact with her. But Kouichi feels attracted by her and uses every chance to talk with her. Because of the suspicious behaviour of his classmates and Misaki, Kouichi tries to gather his own informations his aunt also provides him with informations. As if this was a good idea…
Soon some mysterious deaths occur in the town, even people close to Kouichi will be involved.

The animation quality of Another looks really good only the opening by Ali Project is shitscary.

Amagami SS plus – AIC – 04/12 episodes

It’s the second season of the very popular Amagami SS franchise, it continues where the different arcs from last season left, each arc contains 2 episodes about Junichi and one of the 6 heroines.
Amagami SS plus delivers the same, friendly, cozy and especially romantic atmosphere as its predeseccor while taking the relationships between the couples to the next level. It’s so nice.

Ano Natsu de Matteru – J.C. Staff – 04/12 episodes

Make a figure of her like this, onegai!

The red haired Ichika is an alien and accidently crashes into the life of our male protagonist Kaito and starts living at his house, the fact that Ichika is an alien wasn’t noticed by anyone so far.
She gets easily accepted by Kaito’s lively friends and all spend their summer holidays together.

What might turn out as a bit annoying in the progress of the story are the overlapping love intersts inside the group of friends, that can only go wrong. Shows like Persona 4 show that platonic relationships between both genders work yet it’s so rare in anime :(. There will probably be a romantic development between Kaito and Ichika even though both seem to be a bit dense in that regard. Aside from that the comedy is very good and the animation quality is quite appealing.

Highschool DxD – Genco – 04/12 episodes

Highschool DxD is a straight action anime with lots of (uncensored) fanservice. This kind of anime became really rare over the last few years, UNFORTUNATELY! The main character Issei is an hot blooded, testosterone guided high school boy. He has no luck with girls, but one day a cute girl approaches him to ask him about going out with him. Issei is overjoyed, but on the day of his first date his girlfriend turned out as a sadistic fallen angel and Issei got killed by her. Fortunately Issei got resurrected by the demon Grimore Rias and became her demon servant. He also became a member of Rias demon team family. The story so far is solid and the characters are also likeable.

Inu x Boku SS – Studio David – 04/ —

This is one of my favorites so far, main heroine Ririchiyo is a half breed between human and a supernatural creature, she never received earnest love from someone, not even her parents. Because of her difficult background, Ririchiyo developed a facade to protect her fragile self.
She speaks in an abusive way towards other people, so that they won’t get close to her.

Ririchiyo left her family and moved to Ayakashi Kan, a mansion for half breeds and Youkai.
As special service of this residence the inhabitens get a special agent who takes care of their needs. At first Ririchiyo is irritated by her agent Soushi, who shows dog like admiration torwards her, but because of his kindness and charming personality she keeps him as agent. The show follows their daily life, the ‘s backgound of the girl causes some drama but also good comedy is included, so far the balance of both is very well done. The animation style looks very well-

Nisemonogatari – Shaft – 04/12

Araragi is back, after the great success of the Bakemonogatari anime in 2009, Shaft blesses us with a continuation of the stories. At first it isn’t clear which way the new story will take but the reunion with all the characters we loved in Bakemonogatari is really nice and entertaining.
There is quite an amount of high quality fanservice included, that lucky Araragi is such a player.

During the dynamic dialogs we learn a few things piece by piece that slowly develop the first arc, which is about Araragi’s sisters. Not that I would miss Senjougahara, but so far only had few screentime and in the time she had she did not appear like a girlfriend someone wants to keep. Haha the other girls were way more appealing so far, I would choose Kanbaru with her grown out hair she is quite pretty and she’s a wild one ^^. Nisemonogatari still has lively and fast dialogs, but the fast bombardment of text screens from Bakemonogatari seems to have stopped.

Papa no Iukoto wo Kikinasai! – Feel – 04/12

Yuta lives his newly started College life. One day Yuta’s visits his big sister, Yuri  and her daughters Sora, Miu and Hina. The main reason of the meeting is that Yuri wants to go on honeymoon with her busband and so her brother should take care of her daughters for a few weeks. On the first day Yuta and the girls have a lot of fun, but destiny strikes and the flight of the parents went missing. It is assumed that they are dead.

After the funeral the relatives want to seperate the girls, because none of them has enough space or don’t want to take care of all three girls, which is just cruel after they lost their parents a few days ago, Yuta doesn’t want this to happen and suggests to take care of all 3 girls, the relatives don’t really agree on that, but in the end Yuta and the girls move in his small appartement without real permission. They start to live in the small apartment, and the reign of chaos begins.

The end of pisode 02 was rather depressing, the mere thought of young children loosing their parents gave me the creeps. I wasn’t able to watch the next episode for some weeks. Nevertheless I picked this show up again. The anime is labeled as comedy but it won’t be overly light hearted I guess. It will be quite difficult to raise the girls with part time jobs and no support from anyone. it keeps me worried. Papa no Iukoto wo Kikinasai! has a interesting and heart warming story. Its nice how Yuta tries to take care of them and how the three sibliings interact.

Rinne no Lagrange – Production I.G, Xebec – 04/12

This appears as a happy toned mecha anime with enchantingly cute female pilots and very good visual effects. In the calm, placed next to beach, city of Kamogawa the bubbly Madoka likes to play hero and saves people in need whenever she can. One day an unknown girl named Lan takes her along to the hangar of a special agency, because of her abilities she is chosen to activate and pilot a certain robot. Without further ado they put her into cockpit to repress an incoming mech from outer space. It appears that Madoka will get support from Lan and another pilot, called Muginami in fighting against the bishounen aliens who are after the robot called Vox.

So far I really enjoyed this anime, it’s funny and nicely animated, also the characters are interesting and most of all likeable, there might occur a darker development in the future, a 2nd season is already announced.

Tantei Opera Milky Holmes Dai 2 Maku – J.C. Staff – 03/12

The cute yet stupid detectives are back, the season starts where the last one ended, Cordelia, Hercule, Nero and Sherlock still have no Toys and have no privileges in the academy, they have no own rooms, not good food, their treated really badly to sum it up. All the characters from last season are back, Arsene, her silly trio and the incompetent G4. Arsene desperately wants that Milky Holmes gets back to their old selves and triggers certain events. Tantei Opera Milky Holmes is a show from lunatic for lunatic. It has a special kind of humor which won’t be everyones taste.

The animation style is not that appealing, but decent it has the appearance of an anime for kids, even though it is not suited for this audience. Anyway, what I can say for certain is, that the girls are cute. Hopefully the girls will get their tools back this time and keep them eventually.

Zero no Tsukaima F – J.C. Staff – 04/12

Im a big Zero no Tsukaima fan and I like the character of Louise a lot, I also have a huge wallscroll of her over my TV ^^. The fourth and last season of  Zero no Tsukaima finally started. Unlike the final season of Shakugan no Shana, the begining of Zero no Tsukaima was better made. There is something wrong with Shakugan no Shana Final *sob* what have you done to my beloved anime.

It took some time for the fourth season, but its nice to see all the old characters again and hear the nice background music. The 4th season also radiates the essence of the previous seasons and it still has the action, comedy and romance mix. In terms of Saito you’ll notice some development, putting all the bumping in harem girls aside (I think they should stop the harem thing near the end), he sets most of his attention torwards Louise. A letdown is, that Louise always gets interupted by the other girls when she wants to be alone with Saito.

Louise  still freaks out on the next possible ocassion and uses her “explosion” spell on Saito, which is somehow sad after three seasons of Zero no Tsukaima. I finally want my romance.

The setting and story of Zero no Tsukaima had always been good, but the end and also the impression of the whole franchise will depend on Louise and if she will finally fully accepts her feelings torwards Saito. I would be really dissapointed when they’d end this with an open end.

So thats all for now, the anime of this Winterseason 2012 turned out better than expected at first. Shows I would suggest to you giving a try are: Another, Nisemonogatari, Inu x Boku SS, Rinne no Lagrange and Papa no Iukoto wo Kikinasai!

After part a, here is part b of my anime watchlist from the very good Fallseason of 2011, I don’t watch all these shows at a weekly pace, but when I have time and don’t fall asleep I watch them.

Sorry for the lack of figure reviews in these last few months, but please bear with it a few weeks more, by the end of this month new figures should be released and arrive here soon.

In this post I will talk about Persona 4, Last Exile – Ginyoku no Fam, C³ – Cube x Cursed x Curious, Mashiroiro Symphony: The Color of Lovers and Shakugan no Shana III Final.

Persona 4

I never played any of the Persona games so far, but I wanted to try this anime adaption.
Main character Yuu transferred from Tokyo to the calm town Inaba. Despite acting a bit strange on it’s first day at the new school, he soon finds two nice classmates, the funny Yosuke and the upbeat and talkactive Chie, all three befriend quite quickly and start to hang out with each other.
In Inaba some mysterious suicides(murders?) occured, it is said that all victims appeared on the “Midnight Channel” that only airs around midnight, it is an urban legend of the town.

One day Yuu realizes that he can enter a tv screen just by touching it,his newly made friends, they want to see it for themselves. They went to an electronic store and with the help of Yuu they can enter a different dimension which resembles Inaba. The Inaba in this dimension is a lot more creepy and full of fog. As the trio is attacked by ugly monsters Yuu’s newly gained powers awake and he can summon a fancy dressed giant called “Persona” which works like an extension of his own body. He slayes the attacking monsters and saved the day. With the help of Kuma, a weird but somehow cute bear like resident of this dimension they can go back to their own world.

Later it is said that people who enter the other dimension are attacked by the manifestation of the dark sides of their personality. As the trio enters the dimension again, Yosuke and also Chie are attacked by the manifestations of their dark side. The manifestations try to kill the real Chie and Yusuke. Yuu tries to protect them with his Persona and also with encouraging them. When both accepted their dark side, the alter ego dissapears and both get their own Personas, like Yuu.

I don’t know if Persona 4 is close to the game since I haven’t played it, but so far I really like this show. Yuu, Yusuke and the lovely Chie are a nice group of friends, it’s really enjoyable to see how they interact. The youth culture spirit of this anime is very nice, untroubled and funny dialogues and characters with believable personalities. The animation style looks quite different than in most other animes, a bit more on the realistic side, it is a pretty nice look. This seems to be promising.

Last Exile – Ginyoku no Fam

Earlier this year I stumbled over the announcement of another anime inside the Last Exile universe, in 2003 there already was a Last Exile anime, which I really liked, it was one of my first animes. The main protagonist is Fam Fan Fan a bubbly and adventurous girl who lives and works together with the sky pirates, she pilots a tiny vanship with her friend Giselle as her navigator.

The story is not that clear after just 4 episodes, but the main setting is the following, the Ades Federation is on a large assault to conquer the whole world, they captured the princess of Turan to use her for activating their secret weapon. Fam who rescued the princess and her younger sister in the first Blitzkrieg attack of Ades can only save the younger princess Millia in the end and escaped to the area of the sky pirates, Ades doesn’t care for small flies like them. From what I’ve seen so far, these two animes seem to be a bit connected, this new one takes place after the events of the first Last Exile anime. So far there was a reunion with the charismatic mad man Dio, the tough Tatiana Wisler as captain and Alister Agrew, my hidden crush from the first Last Exile.

Nice to see that studio Gonzo is back with a very promising show, the animations in Last Exile are simply (jawdrop) stunning. The anime features a nice Range Murata like charakterdesign and beautiful environments, also these Steam Punk design elements and the pretty ships are a nice aspect of this anime. You shouldn’t ignore this show, it is really good so far, well picking it when all episodes have aired is also an option, but don’t miss Last Exile – Ginyoku no Fam.

C³ . Cube x Cursed x Curious

I remember that I said that I just wanted to watch the Blockbuster anime in this season, I failed and picked C³ XD. The setting is the following; the dad of high schooler Haruaki sends his son a mysterious cube, inside this item lives a cute blue haired and upbeat loli named Fear. She starts living at his house. At first she is unconsciously causing a big mess in Haruaki’s house, but what first appear like a simple yet funny, cute and lighthearted “not another love triangle, please” comedy show, very soon turns into a much more darker toned and violent story, this girl named Fear was actually a tool for torturing and killing people in the past which she regrets a lot now.

When Fear is extremely pissed she turns into a scary and evil person who can wield a lot of cool weapons, which are named after existing torturing tools from the past. She is feared of loosing control of herself, when fighting but there are a few enemies, she has to fight. She gets support from Haruaki, his childhood friend Konoha and the student council president Kirika, both also aren’t what you would consider to be exactly a human being.

My expectations after the first two episodes have increased after the 3rd episode, I hope there will be more of scary Fear in cube. The fights in this show are action packed and the scary heroine Fear in insane mode is great too watch ther should be more yandere heroes in anime ^^.
In my opinion the look of this anime is quite creative, well a bit too cute and there are a lot of unnecessary pantyshots, but putting that aside, it looks quite interesting.

As big fan of Tamura, Yukari Im really happy that she gave her voice to Fear, with a very cute and also surprisingly sinister voice, you have to hear her performance in espisode three. And she is also performing the opening theme “Endless Story”. The story is a mix of funny comedy and some dark parts with some bloody action. This anime may turn out as entertaining trash or a entertaining and also interesting story between all the Blockbusters from this very good season.

Mashiroiro Symphony: The Color of Lovers

I was quite happy as this adaption of this visual novel was announced, I’ve played the game, well I’ve only played a few minutes of it because the translating tool only gave me crappy translations, that is why I gave up to play it any further :(. In the setting of the story a few specially selected students of a mixed private school will be transfered with the local girls private school.

The main characters are Shingo, his stepsister Sakuno and Airi. In the first episode they had a beautiful atmospheric scene together, but as they’ve met again in the new school, Airi ignores the nice meeting from the day before and also loses her temper to shows what she really thinks of bringing boys into an girls only schoo. After this “warm” welcome, it takes some time before boys and girls get used to be in one school, but soon even Airi stops being a venomus tsundere and gets friendlier torwards the male lead character Shingo. This visual novel anime adaption is quite different, than other shows of this genre it has nearly next to zero fanservice and has a very modest flair. Ok in the 6th episode Shingo and Airi end up in the same bath tub, but it is not presented in a silly “Kyyyahh” way.

Well, like in every visual novel there are a lot of cute girls and in Mashiroiro Symphony they are especially cute; Sana, Miu and Sakuno have an very appealing look and, with these cute long sleeved school uniforms they looks so lovely, just *o*.
This anime has a very nice animationstyle, characterdesign and the backgrounds are everything looks nice and pretty. The story isn’t very exciting or dramatic so far. The characters are all kind and friendly. The interactions between them create a cozy, calm and happy athmosphere.
It’s nice, simple and has nice characters, I will keep watching it.

Shakugan no Shana III

As a big fan of the two previous Shakugan no Shana Seasons I also started to watch this eagerly awaited third Season, which should conclude the whole Shakugan no Shana Saga.

We learn, that the end of Season II was a lie there was no merry meeting of happy Shana and Yuuji this day. He vanished from Misaki city and his whereabouts are still unknown. While Yuuji is away people like his mother acts as if he never existed and the ones who remember him care about their own problems. Shana is sad without him, but nevertheless she developed a new attack, lets call it Fist of Fire. The leader of Bal Masque appeared from the abyss in the realm of the Denizens and somehow he looks like Yuuji and sometimes speaks with his voice.

Most likely Yuuji became the Bal Masque leader named Snake of the festival, he is after Shana, but not because he wants to kill her. No, he wants to change her fate as Flame Haze. It’s just a feeling, but I think the plan of the leader and the old Bal Masque team might collide one day.

This third season starts a lot more serious, darker and reflective than I had expected, backflash scenes are used quite often, so there’s no real need to rewatch the old seasons in advance.
in my opinion the first episodes felt quite disarranged with Yuuji’s “split personalities” and the character overload, watching these episodes at a weekly pace wasn’t very entertaining for me.
I think I will rather watch it at a slower pace with one episode per week I won’t be saitisfied.

Hi there I wanted to show you, which anime from the Fallseason of 2011 made it into my current watchlist and I also like to share my impressions about them, I will split this topic into two post, cause I haven’t found the motivation to write about all the shows at once. In part a I will talk about Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai, Fate/Zero, Gundam AGE and Tamayura: Hitotose.

Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai

This great show is a comedy about making friends, it was made by studio AIC build who made such horrible things like Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai (haha I know how to make friends). Kodaka and Yozora are bad with making friends, and decide to make a club called The Neighbours’ Club, this club is ought to be for people without many friends. Like in Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai we have female characters that aren’t the cute and kind beings which we know from other anime, they are strong, quick witted characters with edges, but unlike Kirino they are no spoiled and annoying bitches XD

Kodaka is considered as an delinquent because of his natural blonde hair, Yozora comes off as coldhearted and rude and Sena, well she’s popular with the boys for 2 plump reasons ;D, but she does not want such superficial friends especially not of the opposite gender. These are the club members in the first few episodes, judging from the opening more people will become members of the neighbour’s club. Yozora and Sena treat Kodaka in a normal way, but the two girls don’t really like eachother, I would say Yozora is the mean one in their relationship. Together the club members are doing quite entertaining club activities, even though the anime is not entirely used for comedy. Its also a good change that our male main character is no wimp unlike in most other shows of that kind. He also has a very cute goth loli sister ^-^ On a sidenote, it’s funny how AIC can reproduce the look of Shaft’s Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko so well, as far as I know the origin materials for both shows were illustrated by the same person. It doesn’t matter with studio had animated this show, the environmen and the characterdesign is very pretty and appealing.

Fate/Zero

After the Fate /Stay night anime adaption from 2006 and the Unlimited Blade Works movie from 2010, there is another anime adaption from probably one of the most awesome franchises out there. Fanboy? Yes, without Fail, I love this setting and Im happy that there is a new adaption of it now. The story takes place before the grail war of Fate/Stay night. Because of a different production team it appears darker and more mature than the previous storys with Shirou Emiya.

In case you slightly remember what happened during Fate/Stay night you might guess who will survive this holy grail war and who will not, but I try not to think too much about it, well but its also interesting to learn about the backgrounds of Fate and the different characters.
So far Fate/Zero left a very good impression, story and the characters are very well done and interesting. Masters as well as the servants have interesting personalities, even though the servants are a lot more likeable, none of the masters so far would get a sympathy award from me, everyone of them appears like he would sell their own children to get closer to get the grail. Most of them also use quite underhanded methods in this Grail War, so far I wouldn’t feel sorry for anyone of them. Ok, I guess I would feel sorry for Waver and temporary master Iriesveil.

Do you have a favorite Servant so far?

Well, Saber is Saber, but aside from that I like the snotty Gilgamesh and Rider  is just awesome.
The animation quality looks very cool and the action scenes are staged very enthralling  and appealing, the only downside of F-zero is, that you have to wait one week for a new episode.
Fate/Zero will be aired in two 13 episode long seasons, season two will be aired in April 2012.

Mobile Suit Gundam AGE

This is another anime from Gundam franchise, it feels like a mix of Battlestar Galactica and the older Gundam stuff. In A.G. 101 mankind lives peacefully on huge space colonies someday the colonies are attacked by unidentified Mechs called “Gafran“, the defence of the colony doesn’t work against the enemies, but fortunately attacks of the Gafran rarely occur. A survivor of the destroyed colony “Ovan” is main character Flit, a 13 year old boy who is a descendant of a family of famous mobile suit engineers. Flit is also a talented engineer and just finished his first Prototype, from the blueprints that his passed away mother gave him, a Gundam. When the Gafran attack the colony “Nora” Flit has to use his lightly equipped Gundam. With his advanced machine he was able to beat the small first wave of attackers, but the colony is already seriously damaged and lost. The people have to be evacuated with the help of the new battleship.

Some people said, that Gundam Ageis anime for kids, well there are three young teenagers in the cast. The setting itself seems to be quite interesting and promising, also the action scenes and animations are very good, so far I’ve enjoyed every episode.

Guilty Crown

In the near future a virus wiped out a part of the japanese population, the multi – national organization GHQ came to the rescue and stopped the virus, but in fact they just occupied Japan and now rule it with an iron fist. The wimp Shu is the main character of this story, when he came in contact with Inori, from the resistance group Undertaker his life changed dramatically.

He accidently came in contact with a substance, that he transported for Undertaker, which was ought to be used by their leader. Now Shu is stronger and also can extract weapons from people of a certain age. Shu helps the resistance group in two missions, but he rather wants to live his safe and peaceful life, but he can’t step out any more, there’s no turning back. The pretty Inori transfers to his school and makes herself a home at his apartment, to protect him from GHQ.

Guilty Crown has a great, visually appealing animation style, there are great action scenes and super pretty girls ^^. The the plot seems to be a good shounen story, even though some people might have expected a more epic story without school comedy moments, but I like most of this show and will keep watching it. This show will have 22 episodes, might turn out quite good.

Tamayura: Hitotose

After the 4 very nice Tamayura Ova’s, a whole anime of Tamayura was adapted, you should have watched the Ova’s before watching the anime. The story centers around Potte, a passionate amateur photographer, her family and her friends. Some years ago the father of Potte died, after that sad event his wife moved to the seto islands along with Potte and her small brother Kou.

Looking through old photo albums always made Potte sad, because they reminded her of her passed away dad. As she noticed how her little brother happily looked through the albums, Potte realised that these old pictures are no sad memories at all, in fact they are memories of happy times, which they had with her dad. This experience made Potte interested in photography again.

Now she also wants to capture happy memories and the magic of the moment with her pictures. She uses the old analog camera, Rollei 35S from her passed away father. Potte is a bit clumsy, but she makes up for it with her motivation and enthusiasm when taking pictures.

Tamayura is a slow paced slice of life show about the small happy things in life. It has a lot of likeable characters, like Potte’s three friends, Kaoru, Norie and Maon or the owner of the camera shop. With it’s nice animation style, the nice surrounding of seto islands and the moe look of the characters, the show creates a heartwarming and cozy atmosphere, I really love this anime.

Blood C

This 12 episode long show was made by studio Clamp and Production I.G, the story centers around Saya, a beautiful tall grown girl with braided black hair and glasses, it seems like I created the characterdesign haha anyway, she’s really pretty. She is a happy and kind girl, who is acting slightly worldly innocent in a few situations. Saya can be quite clumsy and is easily distracted by her surrounding. Together with her father she lives at the Ukishima Shrine in a very rural village.

She lives her daily live as a teenager, but at night she has to take over the task of her passed away mother, she slays terrible and ugly monsters, who eat the people of the rural village since ancient times. The only weapon against them is a sacred katana which only Saya can use.
She manges to kill the monsters, but she never stays unharmed, which is quite painful to watch, poor Saya :(. The fact that Saya is a young girl and no tough superhero, can be seen after the fights. Aside from her wounds, she always appears emotional disturbed and her body is shivering.
The fights are full of action and look epic, even though its very bloody and hard, in general I try to to avoid such scary shows, but somehow I like that part of Blood C. Albeit the show isn’t scary all the time, there are also calm and funny moments, at least before sunset *Buuuh*.

Blood C features an appealing animation art and one of the nicest looking school uniform designs I’ve seen so far. One of the strange things of this show is that Saya always fights in her school uniform and damages them regularly, I learned that these uniforms are expensive in japan, why doesn’t she use a battle suit. It’s also strange that Saya doesn’t own a bike, when she always arrives late at school and has to walk a lot around the village to search for scary monsters.

Ikoku Meiro no Croisée

My first reaction after a few seconds of watching was “No! not again an old boring europe setting I don’t want this anymore”. Btw have you enjoyed the story of Gosick, aside from the cute Victorica? I didn’t liked most of the second half, too dark and too fragmented storytelling .

Back to Croisée, before I completely lost my interest I heard the light steps from a cute little angel called Yune dressed in a vivid kimono, she looked so enchanting, I said to myself in case I also like her voice Im completely done for haha. Yune is a 13 year old girl who comes from japan and for what reason ever Yune is accompanying an old bearded man called Oscar who took her along to Paris. Both start to live at the house of Oscars nephew Claude who owns a small iron workshop in the shopping district. At first Claude isn’t very amused about the new guest and the idea of his uncle to let Yune live with them. After a few obstacles which appear caused by cultural differences, Claude gets used to Yune and Yune gets slowly used to Claude and the new environment.
To spice things up there is a spoiled and rich girl called Alice whose family owns the shopping district. She is interested in japanese things and a quite spoiled brat, but means no harm.

Ikoku Meiro no Croisée is a slice of life anime without detectives or stuff like that, it somehow has a cozy atmosphere like Aria the animation, the whole shopping district where this story takes place appears very lively, together with the music and the architecture, this show manages to create the charm of an old european city. The daily life of the three is quite enjoyable and also the lighthearted comedy is nice. I can somehow identify myself with Claude and his attitude.

Nekogami Yaoyorozu

This show was made my studio AIC+ and centers around the cat godess Mayu who was banned from the realm of gods after playing several dumb tricks, now she she lives on earth at the house of Koyama Yuzu, who is running an antique shop. In the neighbood live more earthbound gods. In the anime we follow the mainly funny and happy daily life adventures of Mayu and her friends.

This shows feels a little bit inspired by Touhou, well I don’t know enough about Touhou to cover my comparision, but the characterdesign shows some similarities and gives off a certain feel.
This anime is good to start your day, the lighthearted slice of life mixed with comedy plot is easy to digest and the opening song is really nice and catching, when you watch this show at night you’ll probably fall asleep XD. Necogami is no great show, but the likeable characters with their interesting characterdesigns and the interactions between them make it at least entertaining.

Kaitou Tenshi Twin Angel: Kyun Kyun Tokimeki Paradise!!

This 12 episode long show was made by the studio J.C. Staff. It is originally based on a pachinko slot machine, a few years ago there was a two episode long Kaitou Tenshi Twin Angel OVA where Haruka Minazuki and Aoi Kannazuki are two students at St. Cherine academy, both are the magical girl duo Twin Angel who fight against thieves and weird supervillains. Of course this concept isn’t new, but I really like this new adaption of Twin Angel, it doesn’t take itself too serious and shows a few parody elements here and there. I like the oldschool anime flair of Twin Angel, it somehow reminds me of shows like Samurai Pizza Cats and Sailor Moon.

This show features three of my favorite voice actressess. The main characters Kurumi, Aoi and Haruka are voiced by – Kugimiya, Rie, Noto, Mamiko(Sawako) and Tamura, Yukari(Nanoha) could I ask for more ^-^. Of course I could ask for more, but this shows is nice. It’s funny, nearly 1/4 as weird as Tantei Opera Milky Holmes and has cute characters in cute outfits and the action is nice.

The iDOLM@STER

This show was made by studio A1 – Pictures and shows us the daily adventures of the staff of 765 pro a idol managing agency and their 13 aspiring idols. A new producer has arrived and as to be expected at first everything at 765 pro is chaotic and somehow messed up, but that can be quite entertaining. The main selling point of this show is the variety of female characters, a nice mixture of cute and funny individuals. So far this anime takes its time to portray each of the 13 girls in a sufficient way and screentime. Its fun to watch and the animation art looks very good.

I somehow dislike the idol industry, the girls somehow sell themselves and always have to pretend that their are cheerful and friendly anyway this anime is brave enough to show the downsides of being an idol at some parts, like staging at lame locations and appearing on stupid TV shows.

Mawaru Penguindrum

This 24 episode long show was made by studio Brains Base and the story centers around the siblings Kanba, Shouma and Himari who are living together in the house of their passed away parents. Himari has something like a tumor and the doctor gives her only a few more weeks to live. After a trip to the aquarium Himari collapses and dies in the hospital, but then a miracle happens and Himari is brought back to life. Later we learn that the penguin hat they’ve bought at the souvenir shop of the aquarium is a extraterstial liveform who keeps Himari healthy and alife.
When the penguin hat takes over Himari’s body she transforms into an arrogant and sassy penguin queen and if Kanba and shouma won’t obey her, their sister Himari will die for real.

This sounds all quite sad but Mawaru Penguindrum is no sad show, I can hardly put it into words, but this anime is totally funny and the way of storytelling is different, very creative and mainly unpredictable. The characters and the setting are very interesting and additional to that the animation style looks simply awesome with the very colorful and playful design. You could also say that this show has a real psychadelic look with all the signs and colorful things everywhere. This show is probably my favorite in this season, its so creative and the plot appears very promising.

Usagi Drop

This 11 episode long show was also made by studio Production I.G, the story centers about Daikichi, a 30 year old guy whose life will totally change soon. At the funeral of his grandfather Daikichi learns, that his grandfather had an illegimate child, called Rin. Her father passed away and also her mother left her behind. Now Rin has nobody who could  take care of her, even nobody of the relatives wants to give her a home. They even consider to give her into public care, Daikichi doesn’t want that to happen and so he takes her into his home. Daikichi has to reconcile Rins needs, his work and his life, but he manages to be a good spare dad for his new family member.

Usagi Drop spares us with the random loli, oni-chan crap, Daikichi really wants to give Rin a good home and take good care of her. Rin behaves like a real child, when you have smaller children in your family, you’ll probably notice that Rin is a realistic character as well. I like the attempt of this show to act in a more mature way than most other animes these days. The relationship between Rin and Daikichi is very nice and heartwarming, I really their daily life adventures.

Also the opening song “Sweet Drops” from Puffy is done very well, a beautiful song.

Rou Kyuu Bu!

This 12 episode long show was made by studio Magic Capsule and Studio Blanc. The story centers around the the highschoolboy Subaru, his aunt is the advisor of the female elementary school basketball team and somehow forces Subaru to be their trainer for at least 3 days.
The members of the team are happy about having a trainer, because they want to teach the male basketball team a lesson. As I’ve read the description of the anime I thought that Subaru would be a girl, but I was wrong and so the show takes a quite different direction than I’ve expected.

A few of Subaru’s friends and other people make fun of Subaru because of his job as elementary school basketball trainer, they call him prince lolicon and whatnot. At first Subaru isn’t that enthuisastic about being the trainer of a female elementary school basketball team, but after he learns about the circumstances of the team and why they want to win, he gives his best to help the girls with improving their skills. After some time Subaru shows traces of affection torwards Tomoka, the ace of his team. Im curious about how the story will go on.

I dislike seductive acting lolis in anime, but in case of Rou Kyuu Bu! they are mainly acting in a cute way. I try to ignore them the inappropriate scenes. I keep watching this show because  the girls are cute, I like basketball, the show has funny moments, the characters are interesting.

Mayo Chiki!

This show was made by studio Feel and TBS, the main characters are Kinjirou who always gets nosebleed when a girl touches him and Subaru who works as a butler. Subara is only allowed to keep working as a butler at the Suzutsuki household when nobody at school notices that Subaru is actually a girl. One day Kinjirou accidently discovers that Subaru is a girl and the chaos begins.

Suzutsuki Kanade the boss and friend of Subaru forces Kinjirou to keep silent about this incident, but in return she wants to help him with overcoming his so called gynophobia. Well in fact she is only teasing him for her personal joy in the first place. As the sadistic girl she is Kanade puts Subara and Kinjirou into embarrasing and risky situations who could even expose Subaru’s true gender, but thanks to that both become very close soon. The show has a harem flair to it and a few girls try to approach Kinjirou in a more or less violent fashion during the first few eps.

This show is a bit silly sometimes, some things doesn’t really makes sense, but its very funny, entertaining and the fanservice is quite nice. One point I have to mention, is the animation art of this show, it looks very well done, crisp and clean, also the design of the eyes looks great.

That was my “little” watch list for this season, with the ongoing shows from last season and the new shows Im at my limit with the shows Im following. I initially watched a few more shows but I couldn’t bring myself to like Sacred Seven, the same can be said about Gainax’s Dantalian no Shoka where I’ve expected a lot more and Kamisama no Memochou is on hold for the time being.

My Anime Springseason watch list post have come to an end and today I will show you my impressions about the shows I’ve watched in this post. Of course this impressions are just my humble opinion, but please bear with it and don’t feel offended by some bashing :D.

Maybe I will make a post about the long running anime shows like Ao no Exorcist, Hanasaku Iroha and Steins;Gate which I’ve also picked in the springseason when they are finished.

This 11 episode long show with the incredible long name is a slice of life, growing up drama with some small comedy parts. It was made by the studio A-1 Pictures who also made such very nice shows like Ookiku Furikabutte and Kannagi.

This show is about a group of childhood friends who broke apart because Menma the link of the group died in an accident. A few years later the ghost of Menma appears before Jintan the former leader of the childhood friends and starts to live at his house. She wants him to grant her a wish, but she forgot what kind of wish it was. After two tragic events in his past; the death of his mother and the death of Menma, he became a really messed up guy, without any motivations or friends, who is absent from school for a while. The ghost Menma is the complete opposite of him, she is always in high spirits, hyper and is acting a bit naive and childish from time to time.

The characters are very well developed, and have their own motivations well, Jintan doesn’t really have any motivation :p. There are more likeable characters like Anjou and Poppo and the snotty acting ones like Tsurumi and Yukiatsu. Near the end all of them can overcome their selfish problems and conflicts to work together to help the ghost of Menma in fullfilling her wish.

At first I was a bit skeptical about the short length of just 11 episode, but these doubts were totally ungrounded, this show shines with it’s well paced episodes and a consistent way of storytelling. This great show has a touching ending, I won’t spoiler too much, but you should prepare some tissues before watching the last two episodes.

A 12 episode long show from Diomedea, which is known for cute anime like Nanatsuiro Drops and Shinryaku! Ika Musume.

Astarotte (nicknamed Lotte) is a succubus princess, who doesn’t know her father and rarely sees her mother, which is the Queen in the world of Alfheimr. So the princess lives alone with their different servants.

Lotte is close to developing her wings, when that happens she has to suck off a male or her development will take a wrong turn. She also has to create her personal harem for this mentioned purpose, the problem is that Astarotte hates men. As things progress her custodian Judith summons a man from earth called Naoya who now has to work in Lotte’s harem. He also is allowed to bring his daughter Asuha along who always forgets to wear her underwear.

I think the discription sounds borderline in a quite misleading way, but believe me or not this is a tame show, there are no indecent loli scences which might creep you out. This show is labeled as ecchi, but we see very little direct fanservice, most of the fanservice comes from the outfits.

We follow Naoya how he gets used to live in the new world and slowly gains Lotte’s trust.
The environment reminded me a bit of Zero no Tsukaima and a bit of Hayate the combat butler. Naoya isn’t especially strong his real strength is his emphatism, he treats Lotte in a kind way and acts as some kind of father for her, because of him she regains her happiness. Soon the some kind of messed up family situation which also includes Naoya is revealed in the show.

Overall the show appears like a cute and lighthearted show about family with really funny comedy and some emotional parts, in fact it is very heartwarming and touching sometimes. Aside from that I also liked the darker moments of this show where Naoya was in the predicament between the purpose he should fullfill and the father-like feelings he has for Lotte. The animation style of this show looks nice and colorful, the characterdesign is cute and appealing. This show features many talented voice actors like my two favorites Tamura, Yukari as Asuha and Kugimiya, Rie as Lotte. It’s quite a joy the hear the two of them acting together.

Dog Days is a 13 episode long fantasy adventure anime made by Studio Seven Arcs who made all the Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha seasons and the two Sekirei seasons.

The story plays in the world of Flonyard and begins with the kingdom of Biscotti at the brink of defeat by the kingdom of Gallette. The princess of Biscotti, Millhiore wants to summon a hero who can save the kingdom and turn the tables in the battle. So a hero from earth is summoned, the athletic high school boy Shinku, after being summoned without warning, the cute and well mannered princess gives him a short talk about the world of Flonyard before sending him to the frontline.

We learn that war in this world is totally different from the wars we know, because of magic barriers around the battlefield nobody gets hurt or dies, instead they turn into animal shaped balls for a short time. The wars are held between the different kingdoms for competing with each other and to entertain the people in Flonyard. Among the regular troops there are a few well trained soldiers who are able to use large “Nanoha like” magical attacks with their weapons.

Unfortunately the princess forgot one little thing about summoning, after being summoned the hero can’t return to his homeworld anymore. But the researchers under the lead of chief researcher Ricotta Elmar are working hard to find a solution for this problem.

Aside from being competitive or a misleaded motivation like the best friend of princess Millhiore, Leonmitchelli. There are no real villains in Dog Days, the show is mainly cute, funny, slightly dramatic and a bit heartwarming. Well Dog Days is a bit corny sometimes and has a few slow parts at the beginning, but it is a really entertaining adventure anime.

The characters in this show are interesting and help to create a lively setting. Except Shinku all the characters have animal ears; bunny, cat and dog ears are presented. A big bonus point for me were the female animal eared characters they look so damn cute, Eclair with her droopy ears or the fox eared Yukikaze, but especially the enchanting Princesss is such a cute and friendly person. The scenes where she acts as a happy dog and wags with her tail are just adorable.

The animation quality looks quite good, and delivers an appealing characterdesign, smooth animations and also a nice lookng environment. This anime offers some fanservice here and there, bouncing oppai, the princess in the bath(Yeah!), or damaged clothes it isn’t irritating it mainly gives you some good laughs. Speaking of that the comedy moments are also quite good.

What I really liked was that the anime took the effort after the big climax to create a good, heartwarming and satisfying end with a chance for a 2nd season. I would like to see that.

This 12 episode long show was made by one of my favorite studios Shaft who also made the great Bakemonogatari, Pani Poni Dash and Arakawa Under the Bridge.

The story centers about Makoto, a boy who is trying to live his life to the fullest and likes to count his adolescence points, when he makes good or bad experiences, a good experience for him would be a date with a girl and a bad experience would be being molested by his aunt.

Makoto used to live on the countryside, but transfers to the city where his very attractive, but also weird aunt Meme lives. Meme is 39 but has a body of a 20 year old woman, her youthful charm and the upbeat personality are really enchanting. Meme loves to tease Makoto by claiming that he sniffs at her underwear or bed matress because he has an aunt fetish in fact it looks more like Meme has a Makoto fetish XD

Meme has a daughter named Erio, who also lives in the house. Erio thinks that she is an alien, she talks about weird stuff and is rolled in a matress. Her mother ignores her most of the time because she don’t know how to deal with her daughter after her personality changed to such extremes. Somehow Erio finds a liking to Makoto and they are spending some time together.

The new classmates of Makoto are also more of the weird kind, but they are cool and funny.
One is Ryuuko, a petite and cute girl with an energetic personality, she likes Makoto a lot and is always jealous torwards Erio. The other classmate Maekawa is a tall and pretty girl, she a very cool and laid back personality, she also likes Makoto a lot, but can hide it better than Ryuuko.

After Makoto understands the whole family situation he is able to change Erio a bit to the better and that leads to a better mother daughter relationship between Meme and Erio. In terms of story there honestly isn’t much more going on, we follow Makoto’s daily life where he hangs out with Erio or his adorable female friends Maekawa and Ryuuko. But this show was really my taste, it offers a funny setting with interesting characters, entertaining dialogs and lots of eyecandy.

This anime offers great animation art style, the characterdesign looks fantastic, the faces and bodies of the characters are very detailed especially the female characters look simply beautiful.
Also the opening Theme is so great, it is so catchy and energetic that I ordered the cd.
If you like weird comedy’s from Shaft with great animations you can’t go wrong with this show.

This 12 episode long show is a visual novel adaption made by studio Dogakobo who made shows like Shin Koihime†Musou and Myself ; Yourself, which I’ve never seen to be honest.

The story centers around Kazuma who returns to the small town where he grew up, along with his small and a little bit sick brother Ayumu, no! this is not the gay version of Yosuga no Sora.

We follow Kazuma and his friends through their everyday live and random events who center around the different girls. It is a harem anime but we only have three real love interests, the airhead, the tsundere and the shy one, the other girls are only used as supportive characters.

There are given several hints about which girl Kazuma might choose in the end, but until episode 10th episode it is quite open. A nice change in comparison with other visual novel adaptions of that kind is, that the male character rejected two of the three love interest during the show.

I was a bit surprised about the choice of Kazuma, but overall the show ended in a satifying. Unfortunately Kazuma’s little brother Ayumu got no girlfriend in this show like I had expected beforehand. Hoshizora e Kakaru Hashi is a lighthearted harem comedy. It is a bit simple and more generic, but for me it was at least entertaining. Also the animation quality looked quite good in the environment department and the characterdesign was very cute and appealing.

This 12 episode long show was produced by the studios Geneon and Manglobe, who also made shows like Black Lagoon, Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan and Samurai Champloo.

This anime is the sequel of Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai, in case you don’t know whats the show about, here comes a short summary; Keima is a passionate dating sim player and because of his website he is known as the god of conquest of dating sims, through a misunderstanding he has to help the clumsy, cute but airheaded shinigami Elsie with her task of catching loose souls of demons which escaped from hell and possesed girls who are depressed somehow. At first Keima isn’t interested in getting involved with girls in real life, but he can’t refuse to help Elsie with her task, otherwise both will be killed by the chokers around their necks.

So he helps her with the task and has to think about a way to win the hearts of the girls, so that they can be freed from the loose souls. To infiltrate the house of Keima and his mother Elsie claims that she is the illegitimate daughter of Keima’s dad, which causes quite a ruckus especially for the dad XD

Keima is an excessive game otaku, so you would expect that he can’t get in touch with girls at all, but our Keima is quite handsome and intelligent. His experience with dating sims turns out as surprisingly helpful in real life. Albeit it is funny to see how Keima breaks out of his usual behavior of ignoring other people when he deals with the problems of the different girls.

In season 1 Keima and Elsie were not the best team, but they could catch quite a number of loose souls. Even though their work is far from done yet. In the second season a new shinigami named Haqua appears, a previous classmate of Elsie. She seems to be more capable than her, but she sucks at real combat. In season 2 Keima also has to win the hearts of a few posessed girls, all the different chapters are very interesting, diversified and also show a little bit of depth.

In terms of Comedy Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai II is funnier than in season 1 when Keima looses his temper or runs into trouble because of Elsie. Also the animation art of Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai II is very nice, there is an appealing characterdesign not exactly as pretty as in Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko, but it looks great in both shows.

This 10 episode long show was made by Production IG who made Seirei no Moribito and Kimi ni Todoke. This show was aired 10 days in a row, so it was the first finished show from that season.

At first I thought it was a fun show about teenager who play baseball but it soon turned out to be different. Minami‘s friend Yuuki is very sick and has to stay in hospital for quite a while. Unfortunately Yuuki used to be the manager of the high school baseball team, as the good friend Minami is, she fills in for Yuuki, even if she doesn’t reallly like baseball. To be a good manager she wants to get a book about baseball management, but she somehow bought the wrong book, business management instead of baseball management, but because Minami is short on money she keeps the book.The book turned out to be a good help for the baseball team the changes are indenyable and so they keep on winning and are even aiming for the high school nationals.

At some points this anime feels a bit dry, and the baseball scenes aren’t as thrilling as in Ookiku Furikabutte for example, but the true potential lies in the drama part of Moshidora. At first Minami gives her all to win the matches for Yuuki’s sake, but soon Minami gets obsessed with winning for her own sake. Yuuki and Minami get into an arrgument someday because their motivations for being the team manager and about playing baseball are quite different now. Its very interesting to see these two different viewpoints. The end was touching and left a big impact on me *sob*

The animation style was clean but not that attractive as other shows from Production IG. For only 10 episodes the portraying of the characters from the team is good, but in comparison with Minami and Yuuki they are just simple sidecharacters, you can’t expect more in 10 episodes.
When you want to see a baseball anime this show, but it is a very well made drama anime.

This was my biggest disappointment in this animeseason, I won’t hold back my anger, man what a waste of time. This 12 episode long show is an adaption from the visual novel game made by Navel. The anime was produced by studio Nomad who also made the nice Yokuwakaru Gendaimahou and Kämpfer. hahaha Kämpfer was nearly as worse as Oretachi ni Tsubasa wa Nai.

Well this show isn’t bad because of the idea behind it, the story sounds quite interesting. Because of a dramatic experience in his life Haneda Takashi escaped from reality and created multiple personalities and he ended up in the abyss where he sits in front of a tv and switches through the life of his alter egos. All personalities of him have their own daily life, friends and acquaintances which is quite entertaining, but unfortunately that couldn’t save this show.
This show also has a lot of censored fanservice maybe to cover the flaws of this adaption XD

Another thing that bothered me were the female characters, I disliked nearly all the girls in the show, they had such annoying voices and the personalities of them were mainly superficial.
At least the male characters had better developed personalities. Hayato for example was really cool with his foul language and also Shuusuke was a funny guy. Unfortunately the show is way too short to deal with the plot of the adaption in a satisfying way and it seems that not much effort was put into the storytelling. I don’t like the mix of serious plot with nonsense comedy.

It seems like Nomad sucks at more complex stories even Xebec could have done a better job with that adaption. Most of the show felt scatterbrained and was done in a halfassed way, I really regret that I’ve watched this show until the end. So now I wrote about all the short running shows of the Anime Springseason 2011, I’ve watched. For me it was an interesting Anime Season I was mainly satisfied with the shows I’ve picked.
My favorite short running shows were:

– Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai
– Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko
– Dog Days.

Also the other shows were good, Astarotte no Omocha! was very cute and Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai II was entertaining and cool, only Ore-tachi ni Tsubasa wa Nai was a show I shouldn’t have watched. What I liked the most were the longrunning shows that have started in that season.
I like those longer shows a bit more, because of the very detailed and livelier settings.
These shows really implicate you in the world of the anime and there is time for deeper character development and for building up the relationships between the characters.
