Nanachi is a character from the Made in Abyss anime adapted from the manga, created by Tsukushi, Akihito.

The figure was released in May 2020! She is one of the four figures that I’ve received this year, my well planned preorders were constantly delayed. This Nanachi was sculpted by Mede Rukin and manufactured by Ques Q.
She measures 23 cm in height, the chibi character design makes her appear very big.

What triggered my purchase of this figure was the ambitious concept of this figure, Nanachi has been captured in a dynamic fishing pose and is placed on a very detailed diorama base, land and water have been combined to create an appealing scenery. It’s a big figure with her fishing rod arching above her head.

In the world of Made in Abyss, people enjoy treasure hunting in the Abyss, a huge opening in the ground, which consist of different layers, one more dangerous than the other. The visual presentation is very inviting, there is a nice scenery and the characters look cute and adorable. In this story Riko is one of the main characters, but since she is genki and a little weird most people prefer Nanachi. Anyway, Riko always has been interested in the Abyss and does some light exploration on her own, but only after Riko found the cyborg Reg with unknown origin, their real, honestly quite dangerous journey into the Abyss begins.

Although the story and events of Made in Abyss are not very cute at all, during their travel through the Abyss, not only do they meet violent creatures, they also cross paths with psychopaths and child tormentors, I had fun watching and really enjoyed how the story unfolded in the anime and recent movie adaptation, even when it was partially quite disturbing. A second anime season will be made soon.

Nanachi is the fan favorite, it is unknown if Nanachi is male or female, but to me she appears to be a tomboyish girl. She was a normal human being before, but a cruel experiment turned her into humanoid with traits of different animals from the wildlife. She has goat eyes and ape paws, unlike with many other children her experiment succeeded and turned Nanachi into a creature with superior senses, she is able to detect the dangerous force field of the Abyss for example. Before she got in contact with Riko and Reg, she survived on her own in this hostile environment, building a hut and gadgets, hunting and gathering herbs for potions and healing supplies, but also taking care of Mitty.
Nanachi’s best friend from childcare experiment lab times. I would recommend this anime, it’s great.

With her vast knowledge of the Abyss and it’s flora and fauna, Nanachi is an important addition to cast.
Nanachi is a cool and level headed character, that doesn’t easily panic.She often acts very reserved and keeps her distance from others emotionally and physically. Her way of speaking is often sarcastic, however behind this act Nanachi hides a kind and gentle soul, capable of deep compassion for people she choses. Despite being tricked by Bondrewd and being turned into the being she is now, Nanachi seeks no revenge nor curses her own existence.

When she joined Reg and Riko, Nanachi is also quite bashful when complimented or petted by them, she is more uncomfortable when being touched by Reg.

Now let’s take a closer look at the figure, I think the sculptor made Nanachi’s face very well, it’s a cute and happy face, the green and yellow eyes always were a bit scary and crazy looking, but everything looks like the Nanachi we love. The open mouth with predator teeth showing look very detailed and breathe life into the figure.

This figure was captured in an active pose, which shows the excitement of catching fish, the bend backwards pose of the figure is very nice. Nanachi swings a detailed fishing rod with everything necessary for a modern rod, there’s a line roller, the crank, eyelets and a detailed fishing line, and the part that actually connects to the fish is made of sturdy wire. Maybe they could have used thinner material, but this way it should be unbreakable.

As demi human the figure has a convincing furry texture, except for her smooth stomach. In the anime both Reg an Riko liked touching Nanachi, no spoilers, but try imagining in what way, you can also wonder if Nanachi actually liked that or not. The dominating color is yellow ocher. It is like in the anime, in my opinion not the most appealing color, but in combination with the happy colors of the outfit it looks very good. The ears that come out of her hat are so adorable.

The fancy outfit is very interesting and there are many details to discover. Except for the pretty looking harem pants, her outfit consists of many scavenged pieces, that she probably found in the Abyss. I really like her helmet with the wooden plating at the backside and the pelt which is obviously not from Nanachi herself. At the front the helmet has a number of shiny orbs, It could have been the head of a spider once.

The wonderful base which combines land and water, I love the tiny details on the land area, it’s cool how the fish seems to jump out of the water and how the detailed water splashes have been recreated.

Apparently Nanachi – Gankimasu Tsuri version is an awesome looking figure. So are there any downsides about this Nanachi? Yes, but very minor ones. For starters, the figure is very top heavy and barely stands on uneven ground.

Thankfully, they used metal wires to secure the figure and some of the other parts to the blister, inside the box.
The base isn’t waterproof, don’t ask me why, it might be Otaking’s fault!. Lastly her eyes are glossy, what makes indoor photography a little tricky. In an artistic sense that figure is the perfect, high quality Made in Abyss merchandise you could wish for.

When I looked at the latest figure listings at the shops recently I noticed one thing, they became so damn expensive! 13,000 Yen figures became the affordable category and the top category is close to 22,000 Yen. If this trend continues I don’t know what to do, completely turning my back to the figure hobby is not an option for me. Maybe a good time to take a closer look at my figure wishlist. There I noticed a few figures like Mefmera , Kouwan Seiki or Tomoe.

I also noticed VaistarStudio on Twitter some time ago, a super talented figure photographer, who also makes excellent stages for the figures, here I saw these figures and thought that Eila & Sanya looked quite great as pair.

The figure pair was manufactured by Alter. From base to shower head the whole combination measures 23 cm and the scale is 1/8. An less often used scale after 2017, since 1/7 is already the standard. What is odd about the figures is the release date, Strike Witches aired around summer 2010, but this figure combination is from spring 2016.

The figure couple is quite cute, I like the chilled pose of the girls under the shower installation.
First of all I like that figures are made as a pair, at the backside you see how their tails are entwined with eachother. The two girls holding their long drinks with ice cream and tiny straws. Alltogether a summerly atmosphere is created.

Eila has a beautiful face and a great smile, Sanya seems a bit nervous here, but also has a gentle smile on her face.

The bikini design is very skimpy with the low cut panties, Sanya wears a black bikini with soviet star and Eila’s is wearing a blue white bikini with striped top. Even with the skimpy bikini’s both figures aren’t what is considered sexy, the anatomy is like the whole franchise on the skinny side, although they have long legs and a nice looking midsection with cute bellybuttons.

I have watched Strike Witches season 1, season 2 and Victory Arrow, but I skipped Brave Witches, since I didn’t want to get used to new characters. Fortunately, a continuation of the old storyline is scheduled to be aired this year, named Strike Witches: Road to Berlin.

Eila and Sanya share a deep friendship watching them interact in the anime was always heartwarming and sweet. Eila is my favorite of these two, Sanya has a low profile, but that is also cute. Eila has the ears of a wolf and Sanya those of a black cat.

Final Words

Eila Ilmatar Juutilainen & Sanya V Litvyak – summer version is an interesting and charming figure combination.

I’m a big fan of such figure combinations and this one is done especially nice, both are cute figures with nice pose and articulation. In 1/8 scale everything is quite small, not to say tiny, but the general quality of the figures and the accessories is very high and is solid, although one should pay attention to not lose one those tiny straws. Obviously they aren’t very curvy figures what I would prefer nowadays, nevertheless they are very cute and have a nice holiday feeling.

It’s obvious that the Love Live!! Sunshine figures get less attention from big figure manufacturers, of course the franchise has a lot of merchandise and many surprisingly nice prize figures are available, but prize figures as nice as they can be, are different from those full price figures. ALTER also made a few figures of the Sunshine crew, but only With Fans! a GSC sub label make figures of everyone based on the covers of the Blu Ray volumes.

How should I excuse that late review, depressions? …maybe.

The figure of Kurosawa Dia measures 21,5 cm in height and is scaled 1/7. This figure from With Fans! was sculpted by Kawagoe Hiromitsu and Saitou Nobuhiro, both also worked on the figure of Kurosawa Ruby Dia’s little sister.

The figure has a pretty head with cute ears and a cute nose. Dia has beautiful green eyes, I’m a big fan of the detailed Love Live! design with all of those sparkling effects and surrounding linings, she is captured with a happy open mouth.

There is the most obvious outer trademark of Dia Kurosawa, her beauty mark at the mouth. The tiny blushing marks are plain adorable. The flying hair looks very good with cleanly manufactured fringe and strands, the dark brown color is elegant. It’s decorated with a white triangle bangle on the left and flower ornament on the right.

Love Live!! Sunshine!! as anime had it rough, an idol group from some backwater village trying to “imitate” the iconic Muse from Tokio and fail with waving flags. The very first Love Live!! means a lot to me. I liked everyone so much and it was great to be part of the group for 2 seasons and the sweet movie. I was sad about the too early parting of Muse and that it ended already.

I also liked Love Live!! Sunshine, it had great moments, but they are generally seen as lesser school idols. A few things were similar to the previous Love Live!! plot, but the characters were unique and I loved how crazy Sunshine could be.

The character of Kurosawa Dia slowly grow on me in season two. As she first appeared in her role as student council president, she acted rather mean and bossy towards the juniors who want to assemble a school idol club. It often was quite amusing what Dia did with her antics or “Desu Wa” or her imitation of a buzzer when someone made a mistake.

After she joined Aquors Dia became less mean and actually liked and cared about her new friends, not as much as about her sister, which she totally adores, in the end Dia became a reliable member and important asset of Aquors.

Dia wore that outfit during the “Mijuku Dreamer” performance, it’s very pretty and the asymmetric design of her sleeves looks quite cool. The two tones of red and strong blue colors give her outfit a strong appearance.

The outfit has a very complex design with lots of layers and there ere are many small details to discover on it,
like the two small rippons at the shoulders or the bigger one at her back. The frilly white under skirt is a good addition. Her interesting footwear is a combination of boots and traditional sandals.

The figure was nicely captured in a dynamic idol dance pose that shows Dia in the middle of a concert with a smiling open mouth.

Final Words

I noticed that the figure received some nasty comments on mfc, even by myfigurecollection standards, mainly about the position of her eyebrows. Even though the figure isn’t perfect and the color is a bit rough at some edges, she is very pretty overall. I like her pose, outfit and hair a lot. Dia’s face turned out especially nice, so I feel quite happy about this purchase.

Kotobukiya adapted the figure from her popular storage room scene in the Clannad anime. She is a figure from the year 2010. I just got her recently from my friend at miettechan. We sometimes send figures to each other even when we live 10.000 of miles apart. And I took in Fujibayashi Kyou from Kotobukiya, I liked the figure and so I was happy.

I still remember Clannad to be a show that made me cry a lot, some events were quite melodramatic and overwhelming for my heart, but some things were also quite happy memories for me, I can’t say it was a bad experience to watch Clannad and Clannad After Story. One time I would probably like to rewatch it.

The figure is scaled 1/6, although the pose is rather compact the figure still looks big afterall she measures 12 cm in height. Another feature of the figure is a realistically sculpted vaulting box, I have put it somewhere, but could’t find it on the day of the shooting. Typically for Kotobukiya’s 4-Leaves label the figure also has a cushion base.

Kyou Fujibashi is an athletic person. In the VN her route is a big first love drama, but everything will be ok later.
Kyou is a strong, even rather bold character, but is a tsundere type who acts shy when romantic stuff is involved.
She is the older sister of Ryou, Kyou is very protective torwards the little sister and wishes her to find happiness in life.

My favorite girl from Clannad is actually Kotomi Ichinose, because she is a gentle soul with cute appearance.

The figures outfit is nicely sculpted with the wrinkles and folds on them. The bloomers look tight and stretchy, it’s supposed to look a little naughty. Her thigh highs also look nice and realistic. I also like her shoes quite a bit. The shading is done nicely, even when it’s done a bit roughly at some areas, I do really like the dynamic look it creates.

The outfit is nice highschool fanservice, the combination of short sleeved shirt, red bloomers and thigh highs doesn’t fail to appeal. I remember a volleyball tournament in our school, what a joy for the youngsters ahaha.

Her bodysculpting is great, everything looks smooth and pretty. The left thigh has a minor seamline, they could have made it smoother like the rest of the figure. I also think that she has nice arms and perfect looking hands. There could be a few finer details here and there, but it’s quite all right and I like the presentation of the figure as a whole.

The character design follows the beautiful Kyoto Animation style, her big purple eyes are very pretty and lively.
The old school blush effects also add a bit more to the pretty face. The violet hair looks smooth and pretty, not super fine as on figures nowadays, but clean and soft looking, also the hair ornament on the right side is there.

Her expression captures Kyou’s nervous and flustered from the hilarious storage room scene in Clannad very well.

Kyou’s pose is nicely articulated, the arched back doggy pose sets the focus on her backside which looks nice.

Final Words

This was all about Fujibayashi Kyou – Gym Storeroom version, I hope you liked the pictures and idea behind them.

It’s overall a nicely designed figure. The concept with the compact doggy pose is both sweet and sexy, as Kyou has a nice butt. The P.E. uniform looks very stylish and pretty. The figures expression is also quite good. For a figure from a decade ago it’s great and a nice memento of Clannad, who honestly did not receive many nice figures.

There should be more figures based on Kiyoto Animation characters, why is there no Violet Evergarden?
