Today’s figure post is about Souryuu Asuka Langley – Shin Seiki Evangelion – Gothic Lolita ver :RE made by Kotobukiya. It was a gift from my dear friend Miette-chan Figure Photography. I always kept an eye on this figure, but other orders always took the budget for this gorgeous figure away, so I ended up with not ordering the Asuka Langley – Shin Seiki Evangelion – Gothic Lolita ver :RE figure.

Weeks later I received a package from the States and I was just speechless when I looked what was inside. This figure of Souryuu Asuka Langley – Gothic Lolita ver :RE, also had a rerelease in 2020 and 2021 it was sold for 12,800 Yen. Asuka is scaled 1/7 and measures 18 cm in height, she was sculpted by Itandi. This figure is a reissue of this Souryuu Asuka Langley – Gothic Lolita ver. figure from 2004.

Yeah, well it is an old figure, compared to things that have been made before 2010 figure sculpting and manufacturing took a big leap and nowadays figure collecting is not the niche hobby as it used to be.

I like the updated version a lot more, the smoother facial features are much better and it looks like a sweet Asuka. In this figure adaptation Asuka is dressed in a frilly gothic lolita outfit, albeit it’s not something would wear on many occasions, but it suits her very well. The gothic lolita outfit turned out quite nice, it’s a copy from the old 2004’s Asuka, with the new version though, it has, as to be expected a more detailed design. More folds and wrinkles were added and there is a generally more appealing appearance present now.

As base Asuka comes with a quarter cut, weathered looking staircase with lots of cracks, it’s damaged condition is adding a nice touch and atmosphere to the Because it is not as detailed as on frontal view,
you rather don’t want to look too hard from other sides. I like the way Asuka is resting on the steps, her feet are placed on different steps which puts some focus on her pretty legs with the pretty thighs and thin ankles. With the right hand she is playing around at her skirt, the left arm just hangs downwards lazily with the elbow overstretched.

The main color of the figures outfit is a dark blue, which is present on her corsage, gloves and stockings.
A curiosity on her outfit are the holders at the corset, they look like weapon holsters in my eyes.
All the borders of the outfit are decorated with a frilly border basically everywhere. Asuka is also wearing a four layered white skirt. She is wearing black shoes with blue ribbons. The white choker around her neck is decorated with a red ribbon, the element with the ribbon was repeatedly used at the twintails and sleeves of the dress.

Asuka has an impressive twintail hairstyle painted in carrot orange. The face of this young lady is very expressive with her big blue eyes and her slightly shy gaze is directed to the left. Her character design follows the style of the movies, were Asuka has soft facial features and a generally cute appearance without pointy nose or chin, like in these animes of the 90’s. Overall this is a beautiful figure of Asuka, I really like the cute and round face with the expressive eyes.

The gothic lolita dress appears nice and elegant with it’s combination of red ribbons, white frill and blue are interesting, although some details of the dress could be a bit finer, since it’s a 1/7 scaled figure the frilly parts do look good nevertheless.

Asuka is of courseone of the main characters in Anno, Hideaki’s masterpiece Neon Genesis Evangelion, I have been a big fan of NGE since the day it came into my life and paved my way to the anime sphere.
I loved the pre or actually post apocalyptic setting, were mankind brings together everything they have to prevent complete annihilation.

The religious elements and complex symbolism were really interesting and I liked all the heavy technology that was used to defend against the overwhelming threat.
Every character had some serious issues, nowadays I can relate to this more than in my teenage years.

I was really happy when the new movies were announced, Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone and Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance were a nicely retelling of the anime’s plot with a different direction and nice additional content. Since Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo involved a drastic time skip and had other problems in general I was no fan of it and would honestly say it’s bad for the most part. When Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time was announced I was extremely worried that it would be a bad conclusion for the story, but to my surprise it had been a wonderful final, some unnecessary, budget burning fight scenes were there, but nothing was really bothering me and I was happy how everything came to an end.

In summary Souryuu Asuka Langley – Shin Seiki Evangelion – Gothic Lolita ver :RE is a nice piece of NGE merchandise, you’ll receive a beautiful adaptation of the Asuka character, I think it’s a great idea that she was combined with this diorama base. She was posed in such a way that shows a cool atmosphere and highlights some leg and thigh highs fanservice.

Souryuu Asuka Langley – Ver. Radio Eva, Original Color, is the full name of todays figure. It has been released in December 2020. Tis Asuka is scaled 1/7 and measures 25 cm in height, the figure was sculpted by Kiking and Tone.

The interesting thing about the Radio Eva version is that it has been made in two color variations,
one with normal colors and one with less saturated colors, which is the one you see in my review here.

It might not be obvious for you, but Hobby Max is a Chinese figure manufacturer, most anime figures are made in China, even when the company behind it being from Japan. With all the technical know how and infrastructure it’s just a logical step that Chinese companies start making their own figure lineups.

Emontoys, Myethos or APEX TOY are good companies that make good figures with more or less the same quality level as well regarded Japanese manufacturers.

I’m a very big fan of Neon Genesis Evangelion (新世紀エヴァンゲリオン) from 1995, the setting is quite epic, in general I like “humanity fights against extinction” settings,but NGE is so distinctive and larger than life, I like how everyone is somewhat broken.

That said, I never really understood the hype for the female main characters Rei and Asuka, they are difficult somehow, calling them problem children would be an understatement. But I also didn’t hate them. Misato though, was the only decent women for me in the story.

I was happy that Neon Genesis Evangelion received new movie adaptations years after the anime ended. 2007 Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone, 2009 Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance.
I loved them so much and really was looking forward to the next movie. Albeit Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo from 2012 was such an oddball of a movie, it felt totally different and I wasn’t as happy about it as I was about the previous two movies.

The fourth and probably last movie, Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 has been delayed a few times now, my guess is that it’s hard to find a decent ending for it, because the third one was too ambitious. Let’s hope that it will be finished until 2022 in a satisfying way.

Asuka is a very talented, proud and a bodacious Eva pilot. As the story begins she is 14 years old. She is a real tsundere and tends to be aggressive towards the people she cares about. On good days she can be surprisingly friendly. In my opinion it’s easier to relate to Asuka as character, she tries her best as pilot. Asuka is quite honest and hardly tries to hide her often negative emotions which comes off as rude and annoying.

The figure has a especially nice head, I really like the vulnerable expression Asuka is showing here with her tilted head, the pretty eyes are turned to the left and her mouth shows slightly parted lips and teeth. Her unsaturated orange hair color is beautiful, the sculpting turned out very good with the pretty hairstyle and hair decorations. The strands although probably machine made, is carefully crafted and smooth on the surface.

So what’s up with this Radio EVA? It’s an online stone for Neon Genesis Evangelion related fashion and accessory, you can get jackets, pants, shirts and whatever you can imagine. After hundreds of Asuka’s in pilot suit, the outfit of this figure is something new. Did Asuka retire her plug suit and became a model for street fashion?

The Asuka – Radio Eva version was adapted from an illustrations of Yoneyama Mai, she looks really cool, I don’t think it’s my favorite choice of clothes to see on a girl, nevertheless her jacket is awesome, as it shows really impressive attention to detail with all the three dimensional and accurate interpretation of human clothes at a much smaller scale.

She wears short socks and NGE design sneaker, you could also buy at the Radio Eva store.
And so her pose feels like inspired by something from the casual catwalk or fashion magazine, the jacket is hanging from her shoulder and one hand is hidden inside the jackte’s sleeve, which looks cute.

The figure stands on one feet, the other is lifted upwards. The figure perfectly recreates the characters facial features, Asuka’s expression doesn’t come off very happy,but with beautiful hair and pretty big eyes it is still very nice. The lack of color creates a stylish and cinematic athmosphere, I don’t regret that I decided for this version, it’s something unique on the figure market and also in my figure collection.

I think this figure, Souryuu Asuka Langley – Ver. Radio Eva, Original Color, turned out great, it’s a high quality sculpture with a wonderful paint job. Articulation and facial expression are very well done. I would choose an Hobby Max figure anytime, there is nothing to worry about in terms of quality.

Even when this wouldn’t be your first figure of the Asuka character, the different look here is great, after witnessing all the plug suit versions, it’s a refreshing appearance to see Asuka in casual fashion. Although I am not sure if she would ever choose to wear this kind of casual fashion or rather choose something girly “anta baka!”

Kongou – Kantai Collection ~Kan Colle~

For gods sake I still wasn’t able to get in this stupid online game, even with all the “tricks”. Just how difficult can it be ｡ﾟ(TヮT)ﾟ｡ !!? Even without being able to play the game, I love the visual style of Kantei Collection. Combining a cute girl with a classic battleship from WWII makes you nearly forget about the tragedy that befall this and many other ships. Back to the admirals darling, Kongou looks simply gorgeous, considering that she is only scaled 1/8 this figure is super detailed, the few damage effects on her and the clothes give her some sexy appeal .

 Nitro Super Sonic – Sonico – Beach Queens

As Sonico fan, I just couldn’t ignore this new Beach Queen, Wave sculpted her nicely with all of her convincing physical attributes, just look at her thighs, she’s pure dynamite. I also like the little red crab which will be included .

Ikaros – Sora no Otoshimono Final 

Recently I have finished the manga from Sora no Otoshimono, it ended pretty unspectacular, you should expect nothing from a harem setting in the end. The authors just don’t have the guts to let the main character pick one girl. One of Sora no Otoshimono’ good part is the appealing character design and likeability of it’s characters. Kotobukiya decided to make a figure of Ikaros under their 4 Leaves lable. She looks lovely from head to toe, I just love her puppy eyes. From the backside she also convinces with her detailed braids.

Kashiwazaki Sena – Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai NEXT

I ordered this figure as soon as she was available, sure she is huge, but I’m sure that I will like this curvy girl, the sculpting is so well done. Also her face is convincing, Gift did a very good job at recreating the face of Sena with all of it’s details, while other companies failed at it so far.

Kirigaya Suguha – Sword Art Online

I’ve been waiting ages for Suguha to be released, at first she was scheduled for November 2013, but now the day of her release is close. The figure has a nice natural sitting pose where she is placed on a cute veranda, I guess she will be a cute companion for outdoor shootings.

Cecilia Alcott – IS: Infinite Stratos 2 – Bunny ver.

As it was already announced at last Wonfes, FREEing is going to turn all IS girls except Houki into large scale figures. I always checked out FREEing’s big figures at Tentacle Armada and thought that they are pretty. Nevertheless, when looking at Cecilia I’m kinda impressed how faithful she is to her anime appearance with blush and a lively expression, she looks quite gorgeus. Let’s hope that there will be no cutbacks on the details in the final product.

Original Character – Kondo Yume

It is mean that Native mixed this adorable cute character design with so much lewdness, ok the illustration was already like that. Yume is really cute, she is petite, pretty and yeah she even has glasses. I like her type quite a bit, there are a number different ways to display her.

These battery powered things in her bag give me the creeps and actually are superfluous for me and I will let them stay in the box. Aside from that, she comes with a mattress and pillows. I’m probably going to order her, even when it takes all of my courage to do so. You can order her from the 25th April 2014 at your proxy of choice or directly from Native.

 
 Taimanin Asagi – Igawa Asagi

Oh I nearly forgot to add Asagi, this is the second figure that I’ve seen of this character. I like the design of her. Her origin is quite  hard stuff, I’m not talking about fights, I took a look in one part, it was not really my thing. Anyway I’m happy that she is made modest in a cool pose

Sonsaku Hakufu – Ikki Tousen

I have a week spot for the latest Ikki Toussen figures from Daiki/Dragon Toy. The latter one made this super pretty Hakufu figure in damaged clothes, I think she would look good next to my Kan’u , both have a similar style and very good body sculpting. This hole in her shirt will be a bit difficult to cover, I assume, that I can worry about that later ;D

Souryuu Asuka Langley – Evangelion Shin Gekijouban: Q – Jersey ver.

Thats probably the most fashionable Asuka figure to date, the hat alone is awesome, ALTER included a different posing option to recreate two different, appealing poses. Overall she looks very good and has a cool expression, I would consider to add her to my collection.

Mikasa Ackerman – Shingeki no Kyojin

Ackermann looks really good as figure, she has cool clothes is super detailed and a without a doubt pretty face. Well, even though I like this story Mikasa comes from a lot, strangely I don’t feel much for anyone of the characters.

Better late than never a Nendoroid of Sakura appears, I just watched the whole Cardcaptor anime like two years ago, it’s the perfect example of a very nicely concluded anime. You could order her from the 25th April 2014 , I probably will.

Love Live is such an entertaining show, there are my animes related to the Idol culture, but Love Live is special. Sparkling animations and character designs, mixed with a number of different, but likeable personalities. GSC chose Honoka as figure to be made, she looks great so far. Actually I like the “big”girl, but the one that steals my heart is the little devil, Nico.

Koshimizu Sachiko – iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls

This is so good, an enchanting yandere type of Idol, I love her cute demonic expression, it’s a rarely used theme, her pose is also unique, I hope the final figure looks as shiny as this.

Tachibana Makoto – Free!  ALTAiR

Well, here we have a sexy boy, oh my I’m watching too many sport anime lately. I never watched Free! for it’s lack of female characters, well I have heard that the female swim coach was pretty. Makoto is not really the bishounen type, but I think he looks pretty cool in this pose and outfit. Preorders haven’t opened so far.

Asuka Langley 1/6 by Max Factory

Lets start with the 1/6 scaled Souryuu Asuka Langley from Max Factory, she will be my first real scaled figure of Asuka, I don’t see 1/10 scaled ones as real scaled figures, they are just too small. This figure was first presented on the last Winter Wonderfestival and I was sold on her.

Asuka comes in her Test Plug Suit which was shown in Evangelion 2  you can not advance.
Im a big NGE fan, but never bought a figure of Rei nor Asuka before, even though there were hundreds of figure adaptions from both so far. I just bought the Asuka Apron Version from Wave which I sold a few month later. This time I’ve picked a real big scaled figure of Asuka, this figure measures around 275 mm in height. What I like about her is the pretty standing pose and her overall very cool facial expression. Also the glossy finish and details of her newly designed plug suit are very nice, in my eyes this Asuka figure is a nice adaption of her character, just beautiful.
I ordered her at AmiAmi for 5,780 Yen and this figure will be released in November 2011.

Hinako 1/7 by AmiAmi zero

Next one is *giggle* the voluptous main character from the Bathtime with Hinako & Hiyoko Ova. Hinako is scaled 1/7 and is manufactured by AmiAmi zero. Even though their preview pictures doesn’t look as good as the final product, they’ve gained my trust after I have unpacked their pretty Menace figure. This Hinako combines innocent cuteness with a very soapy sexy body.
She is more or less completely naked, but her crucial parts are slightly covered by the things which resemble soapsuds, you can take them off as well as the towel behind her back.

I ordered her because of her detailed, chubby yet alluring bodysculpt in combination with a very cute pose and face expression. Also the bath theme caught my interest, its funny how japanese people do their daily bathing routine while sitting on a stool. I already have an idea for a photo shooting with Hinako (nothing indecent of course). Her boobs are a bit too big for my my taste, but overall I like her voluptous shape and I couldn’t resist her cute and “innocent” charm.
Hinako will be released in December 2011 and I ordered her at AmiAmi for 6,360 Yen.

Takamachi Vivio 1/7 by ALTER

The last one for this part ist Takamachi Vivio from the Lyrical Nanoha ViVid manga, where she is the main heroine. I guess this version is more suited for me than the angry Vivio which was made by Alter in late July 2010. This new little Vivio was also manufactured by ALTER and is scaled 1/7 with a height of 195mm. They aren’t that well known for making figures with such a high level of cuteness, but this version of Vivio looks incredible cute. She has an adorable face with bicolored eyes and an open mouth with an upper front teeth line (I love figures with upper front teeth lines) and also her nice school uniform with this dynamic pose looks very pretty.
Im looking forward to see this very cute figure with ALTER’s quality standards in person.

The small white bunny on her hand has two different bodies and can be placed seperately from Vivio. I guess most of you won’t know the Lyrical Nanoha ViVid manga, just to let you know the bunny is Vivio’s intelligent device called “Chris”. Guess where I’ve ordered this figure ;D
Anyway I ordered her for 6,180 Yen, like Hinako her release date is also in December 2011.

At the end of this post I want to show you my updated Figure Preorder Roadmap for 2011.
After the big amount of figures which arrived in june and july, Im slowly running out of space and so I restricted my self a little bit more with ordering figures than in previous new preorder posts.
I will order GSC’s Princes Millhiore from Dog Days, the release of her is sheduled for december and Im eagerly waiting to preorder her. I also will finally send my Nagi Garagekit to somebody who will paint and assemble her for me. This should be, without engagement all the stuff I’ll get this year. Other figures I am interested in are sheduled to be released in the next year.
