Wonder Festival 2014 – winter event #1 copy

Welcome to Wieselhead‘s personal coverage from the Wonder Festival 2014 winter event, which was held on February 09th. It’s the biggest, most popular event for figure collectors around the world. There are two Wonder Festivals each year, one in winter and one in summer.

Also in this year many manufacturers showcased and announced interesting and most of all beautiful figures, which will hopefully be available in the upcoming months and years.

In this post I will show you the figures, that I considered to be worth mentioning and comment them a bit. In this first post I will focus on bigger companies, I have to work on part 2 with the stuff from the smaller companies., adding these illustration really takes some more time.

Kantai Collection ~Kan Colle~ – Kongou

There is a reason why I’ve put her at first, Im pretty convinced to get Kongou with her detailed dress and pretty appearance. Before the event I actually wished for a more sensual Kantei Collection figure and this comes close to that. Well it would be even better with her wearing a smile, but the daily life of a battleship is tough. Still it’s a great looking figure in my eyes.

Kantai Collection ~Kan Colle~ - Kongou

sculptor: YOSHII  – release date: no data – scale: 1/8

Samurai Princess Muramasa – Himeji Castle

This lovely girl is actually a castle of some sort. Im quite enchanted by her sweet smile and the ojou sama vibe, Ilove her whole appearance.

Vocaloid – Hatsune Miku – Mikuzukin

sculptor: Grizzry Panda  – release date: 2014 – scale: no data

7th Dragon 2020 – Psychic

Cool dress, but a rather eccentric style I must say.

sculptor: no data  – release date: 2014 – scale: 1/7

Kantai Collection ~Kan Colle~ – I-58 – Chuuha ver.

look even more of them, I like this one nearly as much as Kongou, it looks nice and creative, too bad that they seem to have different scales.

sculptor: no data  – release date: no data – scale: 1/7

Sword Art Online – Asuna

She got colored, but I must admit that my interest dropped a bit, maybe it will grow on me.
It’s still a beautiful elf ear girl, but the texture of her clothes is somewhat dull.

Sword Art Online – Asuna b

sculptor: no data  – release date: no data – scale: 1/7

Sasami-san@Ganbaranai – Yagami Tsurugi

She also got painted and I still like this cute thing in her casual dress sitting on her comfy pillow, being excited about a videogame.

Dungeon Travelers 2 Ouritsu Toshokan to Mamono no Fuuin – Alisia Heart

A cute loli size knight…

Dungeon Travelers 2 Ouritsu Toshokan to Mamono no Fuuin – Alisia Heart

sculptor: no data – release date: 2014 – scale: 1/8

Dungeon Travelers 2 Ouritsu Toshokan to Mamono no Fuuin – Mefmera

I think the fox eared girl looks nice with her face and cleavage, I imagine it to be really pretty after it got painted, the white dress in particular.

Dungeon Travelers 2 Ouritsu Toshokan to Mamono no Fuuin – Mefmera

sculptor: no data – release date: 2014 – scale: 1/8

Evangelion Shin Gekijouban: Q – Souryuu Asuka Langley

This is cool, outfit and pose  look really fashionable, Asuka has even a nice hat. On the other side the face nevertheless looks a bit plain in comparison.

sculptor: Saitou Fumiki  – release date: 2014  – scale: 1/7

Free! – Tachibana Makoto – ALTAiR

Something that shows some skin, fanservice for the ladies delivered by ALTAiR. I’ll say that Makoto looks like a cool dude, most male figures have a very feminine side, but he appears to be a manly figure. I haven’t watched the show because it had too many bro’s. Anyway I really like this male figure, his expression is great as well as his outfit, the jacket makes the deal complete.

God Eater 2 – Ciel Alencon

My dreamgirl !!!!!!! *heck* I don’t even know her character, but for some reason I love her characterdesign and all the details of Ciel’s figure. I think I might going to buy the figure.

God Eater 2 – Ciel Alencon

Love Live! School Idol Project – Kousaka Honoka

Love Live seems to be popular, yet it feels to be underrated somehow. It’s cool that Honoka finally got her prototype and it even turned out nicely. All the details are in place, I really like her cuteness and the outfit. Honoka should look great when she’s finally painted.

Love Live! School Idol Project – Kousaka_Honoka

sculptor:  Miyajima Katsuyoshi – release date: no data – scale: 1/8

Kantai Collection ~Kan Colle~ – Musashi

Surprise! Surprise! more girls from the victorious Japanese Fleet. Musashi wears glasses, animal ears, is tanned and has a nice pair of boobs. Everything that Wiesel likes ^^, she isbased on one the official illustrations in a simple pose, but the design and the gun turrets should make up for that.

Kantai Collection ~Kan Colle~ – Musashi

sculptor:  no data  – release date: no data – scale: 1/8

Robotics;Notes – Koujirou Frau

Weren’t sitting figures ALTER’s area? No not really. The girl with the silly name looks great, her pose emits a strong atmosphere and she Pocky boxes are cute.

RoboticNotes – Koujirou Frau b

sculptor:  no data  – release date: no data – scale: 1/8

iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls – Honda Mio

Awww she is sooo cute, I can hardly resist her, all the Cinderella Girls scale figures by GSC  have been ordered so far, I might actually like Mio more than Uzuki that face is adorable.

iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls – Honda Mio b

sculptor:  no data  – release date: no data – scale: 1/8

Shingeki no Kyojin – Mikasa Ackerman

It’s Ackerman, really good, but not of interest to me, I only have feelings for Levi 😀

Sora no Otoshimono – Ikaros – 4-Leaves

That’s probably the best figure of Ikaros to date, the 4 Leaves label always stands for cuteness, but Ikaros isn’t only cute, she also is very true to her origin, my second favorite figure frm this event after Kongou.

Sora no Otoshimono – Ikaros – 4-Leaves

sculptor:  no data  – release date: no data – scale: 1/6

Shining Ark – Kilmaria Aideen

I like the fact that she has black hair, she will be a pretty figure overall, a great looking outfit.

Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! Ren – Takanashi Rikka – Cu-Poche

I think Rikka is perfect to become a Cu-Poche, she looks very cool and funny. also a Dekomori was announced.

sculptor:  no data  – release date: 2014 – scale: Cu-Poche

Freddy Krueger & Jason Voorhees – Bishoujo Statue – Movie x Bishoujo

I’m no horror fan in particular, but I like the idea of bishoujo murderers, Freddy is pretty hot XD

Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai NEXT – Kashiwazaki Sena

*cough* This Sena is gorgeous, she’s not only 37 cm in height, Sena also has a beautiful face, her eyes, the rosy cheeks and the happy fang give her a lively appearance. Well, she’s busty by nature.

Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai NEXT – Kashiwazaki Sena

sculptor:  Kondou Takayuki  – release date:  June 2014– scale: 1/4

Fate/Apocrypha – Jeanne d’Arc

Interesting… also looks like Saber :p

sculptor:  Toda Satoshi  – release date: 2014 – scale: 1/8

IS: Infinite Stratos 2 – Sarashiki Tatenashi

A certain episode from the second season of Infinite Stratos inspired FREEing a bit, as it seems, they will make all the maincharacter girls in a 1/4 scale except Houki, which is a bit sad. Tatenashi is a very sexy character and her figure looks quite good. Despite the big scale they all have compact poses. FREEings reputation is rather mixed, but their 1/4 scale figures never seem to disappoint.

IS- Infinite Stratos 2 – Sarashiki Tatenashi

sculptor: no data – release date: no data – scale: 1/4

IS: Infinite Stratos 2 – Laura Bodewig

Who doen’t like Laura? She’s so cute ^^.

GOOD SMILE Racing – Vocaloid – Hatsune Miku – Sepang

I like the light and fresh design of this racing Miku, her energetic mood is great, hopefully she will have this tan.

sculptor: no data – release date: 2014 – scale: 1/8

Medaka Box – Kurokami Medaka

I really like Medaka’s character for more than two reasons, FREEing did really capture her personality with this figure, aside from the fact that is not wearing bunnysuits.

Medaka Box - Kurokami Medaka

sculptor: no data – release date: 2014 – scale: 1/4

Comic Market – Original character – C77 Guide Book Illustration

This was a really nice surprise for me at this Wonder Festival and also my third favorite figure from the event, I love this butt focused figure, the rest of her is also great, like the hair, face and clothes. That’s too good to be true, someone needs to pinch me. I can’t wait for this 1/6 scaled bishoujo to get painted.

Nitro Super Sonic – Sonico – Valentine Swimsuit ver.

I actually intended to ignore the Sonico figures of this Wonfes, not because I started to hate her, more because I already have a number of great figures of this character. There wasn’t anything really breathtaking anyway, but well this Valentine version here is cute, she will have an additional face expression.

Kantai Collection ~Kan Colle~ – Shimakaze – Rensouhou-chan

After AMAKUNI’s Shimakaze I actually set my hopes on GSC’s Shimakaze, but it turned that I just don’t like it after it got painted. This Shimakaze in damaged clothes looks pretty nice and the flying gun turrets are funny.

sculptor:  Grizzly Panda – release date: 2014 – scale: 1/8

End of Part #1

Overall this Wonder Festival 2014 of winter was a lot of fun to follow with many interesting and pretty figures. There was a overexposure of Kantei Collection, but that gives you the opportunity to pick the best. The lack of Horizon in the middle of Nowhere figures is regretable, but without a third anime season it will never happen. Also the lack of progress on some “older” prototypes beclouded the still positive impression a bit.

Thx for your attention, I’ll try to finish the second part as soon as possible

Was there anything you liked from this Wonderfestival?

I have not that much knowledge about Kancolle and it’s characters.
Now that you mention it, she’s kinda cute, I like the illustration of her, I could still add it.
She should go well with Kongou ^^

Yeah she’s so tropical, I like it.

I’m so happy with all the Max Factory offerings! Their Kancolle stuff is amazingly gorgeous and I bet I’ll be getting at least some of the stuff they showed off. Samurai Princess Muramasa was a great surprise too – what a gorgeous sculpt!

Alter was okay, a bit boring but they have been lately for me. I like their Asuka and will consider it but am undecided as of now. I was hoping to see Inshun from Samurai Bride that they showed in Hobby Japan but she wasn’t there. 🙁

GSC was okay, I like their Musashi the most too. She should look great painted!

Gift’s Jeanne was an awesome surprise! She will probably be a must get for me unless they really screw up her painting but Gift usually do a pretty great job. That’s probably the best Sena figure I’ve seen come out so far.

    • wieselhead

Max Factory really pushed their pace, they had so many scale figures this time.
Kancolle is really popular at the moment, I still didn’t pass the lottery ; /
Seems like I will have more Max Factory figures on preorder than usual, the Castle girl is indeed lovely.

The Makoto guy was most interesting from ALTER imo, they are so slow these days.

Im looking forward to seeing her painted, she has a great design.

Gift is quite reliable with this. Yes, it looks like this Sena is true to her origin with a fitting facial expression ^^

  2. Hoshiko

    You surprised me.

First with the inclusion of Makoto’s figure because I remember you told me you didn’t watch Free! so never once thought of seeing his figure on your list.

And then you said “I only have feelings for Levi”, lol. Full of surprises.

Seriously though, Mikasa’s figure stood out to me because I love the pose. I haven’t really skim through the full list of figures announced. From what I found on the actual day itself is Mikasa’s figure and that Asuka figure you had in this post. I was like “yes, this figure you gotta get” when I saw you listed her. Haha.

    • wieselhead

Thanks for readinng my post thoroughly, haha hopefully it didn’t give you the wrong impression 😀
Im still a straight guy, but I don’t want to ignore male figures completely just because of that.
There are certain types of male anime characters I like and Makozo looks damn cool.

Mikasa looks very nice I think, she has black hair, a beautiful face and a cool outfit, but Im so unattached to her character, actually I’m unattached to most characters from the show.
That’s nice to hear, I really like the clothes of this Asuka with jacket and hat, she has this “subculture” look. I hope you can get her =)

  3. Tier

There was some nice stuff there. I wasn’t too impressed with most of what Alter showed. I was happy to see the 7th Dragon psychic get a figure; I wasn’t sure she’d get one since sometimes manufacturers don’t bother completing a series and she sorta looks like a ho, but I think that’s a big part of her appeal. At least to me. I liked a lot of FREEing’s stuff; I guess I have a soft spot for their bunnygirls, and the figures of Elizabeth sitting on Satellizer are both awesome. Painted Sena looks great, too. 1/4 scale is the best scale. Did Alphamax bother showing up? I don’t remember seeing anything from Alphamax.

    • wieselhead

Let’s say ALTER at least had a few good looking figures, but nothing really breathtaking, with all the delays it’s surrprising that they still able to add new stuff 😀
Max Factory isn’t famous for making sets it seems. Lol, I must admit that this word didn’t come to my mind, her clothes are pretty cool, the jacket might have a slutty touch.
I was seriously surprised that FREEing prepared that many figures for the Wonfes, nearly all IS girls. With Tatenashi and Medaka, they made figures of charactets I like for being physically attractive and also for their personality. Medaka really fills her cleavage ( ̄▽+ ̄*).

Maybe they had no booth, but it can also be that all the photographer mainly put their focus on the bigger manufacturers.

  4. Luth

Wow, I thought there would be a few KanColle figures but I didn’t expect this many! Most of them look really good as well, this is going to be bad for my wallet. There were also a lot of figma that looked really good, which is a big change from last Wonfes.
I think my faves had to be Jean of Arc, Himeji Castle, and KanColle Yamato and Musashi

    • wieselhead

Yes, I also didn’t expect to see this many figures of one single origin.
I’ll try to set my focus on not all of them XD Kongou has prority and let’s see what Musahi will look like.
Good to hear that there were better figmas I didn’t pay much attention to them, though.
