Hibari – Senran Kagura – Phat Company

This figure of Hibari was manufactured by Phat Company and released by the end of November 2013. This version is scaled 1/8 and has a height of 180 mm.

This certain figure is based on a Garage Kit from Ringo Renmei, I nearly bought that GK, even though I could never finish it on my own, I  still think owning is better than not owning ;D. There have been many GK’s that I wanted as painted PVC figure, but that rarely happens. Fortunately Phat Company quickly got the rights from the sculptor and announced the PVC figure of Hibari.

Hibari herself comes from the game Senran Kagura, a few days ago I knew nothing about it, but Miette told me that there is also a manga about it. I’ve read all available chapters within a few hours ^^

Hibari  is a 1st year student of the National Hanzo Academy, she takes part in the Ninja classes together with her friends Asuka, Katsuragi, Yagyuu and Ikagura. Hibari is a very cheerful, feminine and cute acting person. As part of the “good* ninjas, Hanzo fights in order to prevent crimes in the area, their arch enemy are the “bad” ninjas from Snake Girls School. The Hanzo girls aren’t especially good in combat and while Hibari has the right spirit she is the weakest fighter.

Senran Kagura is a mix of action, comedy and seinen. It also has a few parody elements and makes fun of martial arts related animes, still it takes his own story serious. I liked to read this manga with it’s appealing character designs. An anime adaption is scheduled  for January 2013

Up to the Review part…

I can say in advance that Phat Campany surprised me in a positive way with their Hibari figure.

Hair & Face

The hair of this figure is very well done, the strands are clean and detailed. She has a cute little pigtails or mini twintails hairstyle decorated with three small blue ribbons. Hibari has a pink haircolor with a gradient from a lighter tone of pink on top to stronger pink at the ends.

A lot of attention has been paid to Hibari’s face, it resembles her look from the manga very well. They eyes are applied in a very clean manner, she actually has normal eyes, but since she’s made in her victory pose, she has these flower like crosses in front of her blue iris. On her cheeks are some adorable blush marks, under her cute stubs nose the figure has a wipe open smile.

The last reviewed figure had a kinda weird open mouth, but the figure in this review has been sculpted with a nicely done open mouth, that portrays the cheerful nature of Hibari’s character.

Body & Outfit

The figure is standing in a rather simple manners, which doesn’t have to be something bad.
As extra feature Hibari comes with a third exchangeable arm, to create the double victory sign pose. The position of the gap is hidden very well, since the arm attaches where the sleeve starts.

Obviously Hibari is a young teenager, but since Senran Kagura always pays attention to the attractive female curves of their characters. Cute Hibari is a short and buxom girl, she has big bouncy boobs  and a sexy waist, the bloomers accentuate her well defined legs very well, while not very long I think that her legs and meaty thighs are attractive, the back of her knee is also sculpted in an appealing way. The subtle applied shading  gives her legs a lifelike appearance.

The outfit might be kinda unique, but it’s Hibar’s battle dress, she is wearing a pastel pink, sporty jersey. The sculpting of it is very good, with nicely applied folds and wrinkles. The silver zipper is painted carefully and clean. Underneath Hibari is wearing tight, blue bloomers, well what should I say leg revealing bloomers are always sexy. I also think that her puffy crotch is kinda cute.
Hibari has a cute little butt, but personally I think that her buttocks could have been a bit bigger.

Another nice detail are the striped loose socks, matching the colors of her jersey and bloomers.
I also really like the bulky design of her sneakers with the bold, leather resembling parts of them.

Additional Notes

Aside from a few seamlines the sculpting of this figure is done very well.

Hibari can stand without base, but you have to balance her carefully, it’s no option to display her like this for long. She is safer on her clear base.

I was also impressed by the sturdiness of this figure during the no base shootings she fell over several times without taking any damage, one time the whole background fell on her, but again no damage occured. My assistant was so clumsy that day. Well Im no one to talk since I smashed the bulp of my little support lamp after tidying up the shooting ground XD

Final Words

You probably can tell by now I’m totally enchanted by this Hibari figure. I find it remarkable that a young figure manufacturer like Phat Company, that I actually didn’t trust much him the first place, delivered such a lovely product with this Hibari figure. Sculpting and painting of figure and the outfit parts are very good. Also in terms of resembling the character the figure is based on, I’m very pleased with her, I love my Hibari, she is cute, cheerful and sexy.

She’s still available here and here

Yup, PHAT is living up to their namesake pretty well again. Seriously for not having my attention at all before I took photos of their Yakumo Yukari PHAT keeps impressing me with their figure releases. I love this Hibari figure, PHAT was able to capture all her nice plump, bouncy, cheerfulness glory quite nicely.

I’m surprised she can stand up by herself quite nicely but as my past experience dictates figures that can usually topple over for as little as breathing next to them.

Actually I wasn’t that convinced by the things I’ve seen from Phat, I just wanted my Hibari GK adaption.
I expected her to be an “ok” figure, but in person I was completely overwhelmed by her,
I never expected that Phat could make such a great figure of a cute girl like Hibari.

Now Im really looking forward to their magical girl Illya figure, kawaii overload XD

At least for some “no base” shots she stays in place, not much longer

Garage Kit as in pre-painted versions? (figurines collector greenhorn D:), if that’s so, have you ever paint any of your figures yourself? o.O

Never bought a figure from Phat Company before but judging from what I see, they look promising 😀 I love both of the Senran Kagura figures I see, and if Phat Company is actually going to release figures from an anime or game I like, I might buy one ;p

    • wieselhead

Yeah these Garage Kits are unpainted plastic parts and you can build and paint a figure with these parts. Phat Company took this Hibari GK as model for this figure.
Well, so far I put my hands on a small GK figure, it is kinda demanding to make this on your own, I rather won’t do it again ;D

I have another figure from them on preorder, hopefully she will be as good as Hibari.

  3. Aya

She’s pretty, the eyes are gorgeous reminds me a lot with Nia from gurren lagann and for the appearance she don’t looks much like a kunoichi ^^

  4. Astereae

My, my what big and wonderful…eyes you have.

Was never able to get into this series partly due to the 3DS being region locked and never did touch the manga. Are Garage Kits cheaper than already finished models?

    • wieselhead

Hehe, that counts in both meanings. I guess XD
It’s a shame that the nintendo stuff is only for J handhelds.
Yeah a third cheaper, but only if the kit comes in pieces and unpainted,
finished Garage Kits range from 150$ till 250$

      • Astereae

        You can say that 😀
True, guess the manga will have to do.

        Pieces and unpainted? Yeah…I tried that once with a gundam model set when I was a kid. Let’s just say the assembly of said gundam looked nothing like it should have based on the box. It was an Epyon btw. I think I will probably be better off buying a finished kit ^^;

        • wieselhead

It’s entertaining and easy to read ^^

Yeah it comes in pieces. Ah too bad, I have some experience with buildings tanks, but that is not enough to build pretty girl figures

PHAT is really surprising me recently, I’ve never thought of them like a TOP company, but their figures (like this one) end up becoming quite charming after all…:D

    • wieselhead

Yes indeed I ordered Hibari with low expectations, but she turned out wonderful ^^
I think the Illya from Phat Company will be as adorable as this figure.

  6. Jenn

Ah, she’s so cute! Her eyes are wonderful, and I like her “plumpness”. I wanted to order her myself but couldn’t justify it since I know nothing about her (except that she looks cute and energetic). It’s good to know she turned out nicer than expected. Her boobs still look a little funny to me though. I don’t know why her shirt’s scrunched up on top of them rather than below them. What’s pushing them up? Figure physics don’t work like regular physics, I guess. ;D

I drop my figures all the time when I photograph them. I’m lucky none of them have broken yet.

    • wieselhead

If only I could be so rstrained with my purchase, I want everything that’s appealing to me XD
Yeah definetely, Im glad that Phat didn’t dissapoint me with Hibari, she looks great.
Maybe her Ninja powers or a push up bra does that for her. Thats true, but appealing nevertheless ^^

Oh haha you too, take care not to break something

  7. Nopy

I remember seeing this figure a while back on AmiAmi and almost clicking on the preorder button. The only thing stopping me was that I knew I would need to save money for school. I still wish I could have her though, the sculpting looks amazing. I’ve bought a few Phat figures and I’ve been pretty impressed with their quality. Hibari’s face also looks really cute which was what draw me to the promo shots.

  8. Batara Yamadipati

yeah i just got my hibari figure, and since i love 閃乱カグラ, Hibari and Ikaruga is on my “get” list. She is still my favorite among the Hanzo High girls though, with yagyuu comin in second :3

    • wieselhead

Ah great, I hope you like her as much as I do ^^
I like them all. Ami Ami zero will make Yagyuu and Katsuragi, unfortunately bigger than Phat’s Hibari.
I guess after the anime there will me more figures

  9. G.K. Sil Kamina

Ah, Hibari. As a Nia fanatic I’m endlessly bothered by Hibari having her eyes (even if it is only when she’s excited). But still, super cute character! I like that she’s actually got some meat to her legs. I’ve gotten so used to rail-thin waifs in anime that it feels unusual when a meatier girl shows up.

I’ve got Phat’s Caster figure and fell in love immediately. They’re a company I’ll pay more attention to from now on.

    • wieselhead

Well, it’s not only a cute detail of Nia :p
Thats something I like as well., some more meat here and there is a thing I like about figures.
Hibari has quite attractive proportions ^^

They seem to be a steadily improving company

  10. Tier

She is really cute; I wish there were more figures with sportswear, particularly gym shorts. The two Kyou Fujibayashi figures I’ve got are wearing gym shorts and that’s the main reason I bought both. I like Hibari’s baggy socks, too; back in the day, it was one of the main features about Kanu Unchou that I liked. I wonder if that’s a coincidence since if I remember right, the guy who created Senran Kagura also worked on one of the PSP Ikki Tousen games.

    • wieselhead

I admit that I love these gym wear, especially bloomers, be it real life or figures, it looks great on sporty women.
Loose socks are a nice but rather exotic fashion detail, I’ve never seen a real girl wearing them.
