I’m quite happy to see a character from illustrator Houtengeki adapted into a figure, the illustrator specializes in portraying young women with curvy bodies that often have a fantasy theme incorporated. Bastet is an egyptian goddess and the design is following this theme in a sexy fashion. The figure was sculpted by Mikami Hirohito.

Bastet was manufactured by Pulchra. Yes, to me it was a big surprise that Pulchra announced this beautiful figure, I took the gamble of preordering the figure, but not without worries about the final outcome of the figure. The figure was released in July 2019, unfortunately I accidentally chose unregistered Airmail for shipping and so I had to wait for some weeks for her to arrive. The figure is scaled 1/6 and measures in her compact pose she still is 19,5 cm in height.

Bastet was the goddess of fertility and pregnancy and described as having the body of a woman and the head of a cat, see what anime culture made of it.

The figure has pitch black hair with cat ears. The shoulder long hair and the a little wild hairstyle looks attractive. Its level of detail is wonderful and the matte finish is nice, aside from a few highlights in the ears it’s solid black. The face combines a youthful and attractive look with a few aspects of a predator, the pink eyes give her a slightly intimidating aura. The figure has nice facial features and a cheerful and amused expression, the showing teeth are carefully applied and I like her cute nose. Overall the expression is nicely balanced and portrays Bastet as confident young woman.

The promotional pictures showed Bastet with milky brown skin. The final figure now has a heavy tan with a mix of brown and terracotta, an unusual sight with the majority of figures on the market having white pinky skin, but after looking at the figure on my desk for several days I think it’s a beautiful exotic skintone, that is pleasing to the eye.

The figure is quite curvy with beautiful proportions and alluring backside, but also looks well trained with her overall appearance, the young folks would call her thicc. I think that the figures bodysculpting is just great, I also really have a soft spot for wide womanly hips that the figure proudly shows it’s also a quite emphasized by the pose.
She has a slender upper body with some nicely shaped boobs, the thin waist creates a great contrast to the hips and the nice big butt. There are also very nice and juicy thighs that make the figure even more attractive.

The figure reminds me of some oversexed 90’s hip hop music videos, also with this squatting pose and the round bottom. Her articulation is dynamic, Bastet is posed in a deep squat so that her butt is close the the floor, how naughty, on the other hand it’s cute how her face is looking backwards over her shoulder.

The outfit combines elements of the ancient egypt and bikini fashion. The single big earning in the left ear looks bodacious. Bastet wears a glamorous collar that consists of gold, blue and black colors. At the wrists she has golden bracelets, each of them shows a detailed engraved pattern. The fingers of the figure are very pretty with their nice pastel pink colors, in her right hand she is holding a short staff with a symbolized eye of Ra as head.

Around her left thigh she also has black ribbon with buckle, that accentuates the soft appearance.

The bikini top and bottom consists of black strings with golden colored buckles that hold the light grey cloth parts together. Apparently the goddess is wearing a thong, a good choice considering that she should not hide that nice bottom unnecessarily. The golden leg decoration is not attached to the golden high heels.

Final Words

The figures looks simply amazing, a great adaptation of the Houtengeki illustration, be it her lively face or the attractive round body. I never had thought Pulchra could perform that level of high quality sculpting, all the small and bigger parts show a lot of precision and attention to detail, the paintjob is flawless also in the smaller areas.

This year I managed to prepare a Halloween themed setup with the lovely Succubus~san figure in the center.

I had a lot of fun with this stage, that I decorated with spiderwebs, blood candles, fog, tentacles and popcorn, I like how the popcorn resembles bloody bones and btw it smelled wonderful XD

“a look back” means that I do another photo shooting of a figure I’ve already reviewed, where I try to improve the overall presentation. Sometimes you’ll learn to appreciate a figure just a few years after it’s initial release, for me it happened with this certain Tamaki Kousaka, she was released in 2010, but I’ve bought her a bit later in 2012.

Tamaki Kousaka was made by Max Factory and released in May 2010. She is scaled 1/6 and measures around 18 cm.

ELLIOTT and Katayama Hiroki created a cute and sensual sculpt. Tamaki has been captured in an expressive way where she greets the viewer with her sweetest gentle smile. Her kneeling pose together with the nicely arched back create an alluring yet romantic appearance. It’s also quite nice how her school uniform shirt hanging down her shoulders .

There are around 265 Tamaki Kousaka figures, but from the many of her adaptations, this one is my favorite. Her smooth, rounded face with the very sweet and gentle smile gives her quite different look from the others.

In the To Heart 2 VN/anime Tamaki Kousaka is a childhood friend of the protagonist, Takaaki Kouno. she is the older sister type with a strong personality and determined behaviour. While this adaption of Tamaki doesn’t make her look dominant at all with her sweet rounded face and voluptuous curves. The big eyes are following the To Heart 2 design, as well as the hairstyle, the figures hair has a pretty shade of red with twintails at the back and an ahoge on top.

In 2012 my figure photography still was quite experimental and sometimes even clumsy, personally I think I improved over the years. So I wanted to make nicer pictures of this sweet Tamaki Kousaka. For the setup I decided to create a room with curtains and couch. Well, you could also call it a fancy porn set, although that wasn’t my real intention.

This Tamaki figure has a really nice body with marvelous curves around everywhere where it’s attractive with a cute slight stomach and shapely thighs. The figure has nice voluptuous curves or to put it more flattering, soft appearance.

This figure is highlighting the characteristics of an attractive woman, yet she has a certain innocent charm. Her outfit follows a sweet direction with the schoolgirl shirt, white stockings and pink panties she looks youthfully sexy.

Tamaki has beautiful breasts, nowadays I very much appreciate what might have slightly bothered me a few years ago. I really like how her hands folded above her breasts, the indentations on her breasts give the illusion of softness.

Overall the figures attractive sculpt is very detailed, especially the area around her shoulders with the pretty collarbones is great. She also has very detailed hands, it’s really nice to look at her petite fingers and painted nails.

Tamaki Kousaka from Max Factory is one of my all time favorites.

Yuudachi is based on Kantai Collection ~Kan Colle~ the once extremely popular browser game, it’s been a while since I’ve played, I honestly miss seeing and hearing all my cute shipgirls, but the game concept is so frustrating, starting from the login and going to the endless task of leveling up and always these long repair times after another failed map.

GSC created a wonderful figure of Yuudachi in her Kai Ni version, she was sculpted by Urakawa Akinori following an illustration of Kujou Ichiso. Yuudachi Kai Ni is scaled 1/8 and measures 22cm, I’ve purchased her for 12,980.00 JPY.

Yuudachi has a very cute face with detailed red eyes and a confident smirk. Overall she a a great and attractive expression. She has faint blonde hair, at the sides of her hair are flaps and wildly flowing strands placed further below with an orange gradient effect at the tips. On top of her head she wears a cute, small, black ribbon.

Yuudachi is actually just a Destroyer ship, the smallest type within a fleet, nevertheless her figure is combined with a big amount of parts. She has a really huge backpack that consist of one funnel with the decorative sail and red propeller, the backpack also carries her gun installations. The detailed guns can be rotated and elevated. At her legs the figure wears her torpedo launchers, on a closer look you see that the torpedoes Yuudachi is holding have funny faces.

The figure of Yuudachi is truly amazing, she is one of the more dynamic Kancolle figures, her pose indicatetes speed and agility and the girl really looks like she is having fun, the nicely made flame parts make her base look more attractive and underline the figures powerful pose. I guess Yuudachi is my favorite from all the Kancolle figures so far.

In the anime Yuudachi started as random Destroyer girl, cheerful and cute, but a rather bad student. After noticing how hard Fubuki tried to improve, she also wanted to get stronger, in the end she showed even more talent than the girl she admired all the time and became Yuudachi Kai Ni.

“I’ll show you the nightmare of Solomon” So lets have a short history lesson, but remember war is always a bad thing. Yuudachi is also referred to as Salomon no Akuma because of her historical counterpart.

In November 13th 1942 a group of the IJN fleet headed out to retake Guadalcanal, because of bad sight the IJN fleet and US fleet were on collision course and started engaging each other in close combat. Close quarter battles especially in he middle of the night are very dangerous for any ships, even with all the armaments, warships are actually very vulnerable under fire. Yuudachi was the first in the IJN fleets formation to break the enemy lines.

in between the US group Yuudachi fired everything at her disposal, creating confusion and damage on all the ships around her. With her fleets assistance Yuudachi actively sunk three ships, at the end of the battle she was damaged and unable to move, but really, most of the crew could be rescued by Samidare. Yuudachi’s actions prevented the IJN fleet from a disaster at least on that day. After the 40 minute long battle ended, the US group have been reduced to 2 remaining fully operateable ships, the chaotic close quarter combat proved that the ships of the IJN were actually really well made, but wasted in a war that never could have been won. Individual achievements, such as Yuudachi’s are quite rare in naval warfare. The other ships portrayed in Kancolle can’t really compete with Yuudachi’s war story.

It’s funny though that her “poi” which means something like “maybe” is related to rumors that other ships maybe should receive the credit partially. Anyway I actually don’t care about that, in the end or better said in her Kantai Collection fiction Yuudachi is a friendly and cheerful ship and it made this especially great looking figure possible.

Yuudachi is the second figure adaption of a Kancolle Shiratsuyu-class ship, the first one was Shigure, she also is a very nice figure, but compared to this exciting Yuudachi figure she is kind of plain, do you know how difficult it is to combine two figures in a picture, these two really gave me a hard time, their bases made it nearly impossible.

Final words

Yuudachi turned out very nice with her cute appearance and pretty black uniform, she is one of the prettiest Kancolle ship girl figures and unchallenged in terms of dynamic appearance, her standing one one leg and pushing forward in a bold manner pose looks cool and is articulated very well. The big mechanical backpack and surrounding flames the whole figure has an impressive, powerful look. Her figure is elaborately sculpted and extremely detailed, because of that some parts are really thin and the figure should be handled with care. Since the figure demands a bit of assembly work, I was a bit worried to break something, but everything fits neatly together.

Hi folks, recently it was anniversary of my blog, indeed another year passed. The idea of Wieselhead.de was born 2010 and it went online on May 15th. I really run this since six years. In the last 12 months I’ve reviewed 16 figures, apparently I like my variety of swimsuit figures.

I simply write reviews about my recently purchased figures, wieselhead.de is my baby and taking pictures, writing text, in the end adding another review fills me with joy and also pride.

What I really noticed this year is that I managed writing and structuring reviews much faster.

Staying active and dedicate your freetime to something for such a long period is a positive thing, still with more and more figure blogs shutting down activity, I start to feel lonely, I can count the number of remaining and active blogs with two hands, it was so lively back then.

My activity decreased a little since some time as well. I simply ordered less figures compared to previous years. Partially of lacking interesting material, insanely high prices also play a big role. An additional reason is that my interest shifted more in the doll territory.

Yeah the dolls, a few people are upset about Dollfie Dream and the likes. but I really began to like this hobby a lot. In the first place I started with fashion dolls for photography reasons. I’m still a rookie at dollphotography, it’s really difficult to get everything right. But that also makes it very interesting because it’s a real challenge where I can slowly learn to improve. Also just taking care of pretty fashion dollls and spoiling them with new stuff is surprisingly fun as well.

Taking care of my now 3 Dolls , Lady Mirai (SmartDoll), Rio (DDS) and Chiyoda (DDdy) distracts my usual worries about the blogsphere. I’m feeling less bitter about certain things now.

The stats of Wieselhead.de stayed as they always were, which is actually hilarious. I really suck at advertising my content, it always made me feel strangely uncomfortable. Which is not beneficial for a ambitious hobby photographer in times of omnipresent social media. I will never win a popularity award, but actually I feel confident in my figure photography.

I still appreciate bishoujo figures and figure photography a lot in general and still have as much fun with the actual process as when I started. Figures became surprisingly popular more as when I started the blog. These days many people worldwide take figure pictures, less for the purpose to put them into reviews, the obvious trend is a more artistic approach on figure photography, focusing on creating the one or a handful of nice and elaborate shots.

I always had some doubts about this certain step, but this year I started a facebook page for my blog, I quickly noticed that I, if at all should have done it much earlier, now it’s too late and apparently won’t result in a bigger audience. I’m also a little clueless about what to post XD.

Aside from blogging, I put my focus on flickr, it’s a very nice platform for figure and fashion doll photography. I also joined Instagram, it’s a fun place to look for and show pictures in a slightly different way. Although I stopped uploading pictures on mfc, it always gave me more grieve than anything else and just brings out the worst emotions in me ૮( ᵒ̌▱๋ᵒ̌ )ა.

Anyway I genuinely enjoy this photography thing. After all this time, I can’t think of a better hobby, oh well maybe gardening comes as 2nd in my case. I will continue with Wieselhead.de in the future, maybe I will invest in a new theme or create a second, only Dollfie related blog.

Welcome to a new post, no figure review but a crossover exchange of some sorts.

Crossover what? … A few days ago, after a little twitter communication I and my much valued fellow toy photographer buddy Pinkcheeks decided to exchange a few of our unprocessed pictures, we both had some that we hadn’t really published in a post.

I’ve send Pinkcheeks safe ^^ pictures of Orchid Seed’s Super Sonico PKG version and I received pictures of ALTER’s beautiful Kongiku and two bonus pictures.

I was very happy to be able to work with these wonderful pictures, since it’s a figure I unfortunately don’t have in my collection and also because I admire Pinkcheeks photography.

While I did something indoors, Pinkcheeks took pictures within a beautiful forest.

I don’t know how you think about it, but for me post processing pictures is a pleasant activity and I really enjoy it when the steps don’t consume too much energy and workload.

I really, really like how my Sonico pictures look after Pinkcheeks postprocessing now they look like what I had in mind when I took these pictures.

I’m a passionate figure collector who not only puts his figures on the shelf, I also like taking creative pictures of  them and write a review about my impressions afterwards.  In advance I always think about a fitting setting for the figure and take care about getting all needed parts together on time. As active figure reviewer you want to get your posts out on time, so the first idea that comes to mind will most probably be only one to be executed in the shooting.

Sometimes this behavior leads to not so good results, aside from quality or aesthetic aspects, there are other reason that make me decide to take some time for another photoshoot.
It can happen that I suddenly think about something that would be cool for one of my figures.

This time we will take A look back at Sonico Bath Time version from Native. I seperated the girl from her bath tub and “throw” her in the water. I aimed to get more atmosphere into the pictures inside hot spring setup. Shy as Sonico naturally is she took her towel along the well temperatured water.

About the model

Sonico Bath Time version was sculpted by Zenko, released in 2012 she was one of the more iconic Sonico figures and nearly on par with Orchid Seed’s black bondage Sonico, a real gem.

The Sonico from Native has a few things that keep her from being perfect, like where is the blush from the illustration, the sliced bath tub or as Chag once said, the shape of her boobs is not to everyone’s liking. Still it’s a great figure with a shapely body and a big expressive face, nice hair and detailed headphones.  I like her a lot with the nice sculpting of her upper body, arms and collarboes, I also love how she covers herself with a towel and her bathing pets are funny.

The idea

For some time I had the urge to try a new idea to do a re – shooting of this Sonico Bath Time version from Native, not that I think that the pictures I did for her review were bad, but I badly wanted to do a re – shoot. I really racked my brain about this one, the first difficulty was to figure out what to do with her anyway, the solution hit my me like lightning … Onsen!!!

The second difficulty was related to the materials, starting from the right sized bowl and ending with the floor, this floor was the biggest obstacle actually, Well, you can’t imagine how long it took me too find one, luckily the DIY store had something usable. A 1/6 scaled figure  in particular requires big props to match the figures size, another thing to take into consideration was, that this Sonico has a pose that is in need for support this and her legs limited the possibilities for a fitting setting . You can’t just put her somewhere and push the trigger.

Used Materials and Preparations

– background board Mark IV 60×40 cm
– riffled cardboard 60×40 cm
-wooden board 60×40 cm
– pottery bowl
– basalt rocks
– plastic bamboo twine
– DVD’s
– modded box
– support stones

The modded box was once a storage for DVD’s, but I often use it as background support, this time as well, to support  background board Mark IV,  I used a still  work in progress board, which is supposed to be for Tharja. For a little color I hung the plastic bamboo twine above the board.

The bowl had a hole at the bottom that had to be closed properly, to match the heights of floor and bowl I used two heaps of DVD’s, a few basalt rocks along the rim and ready is the hot spring for Sonico. Inside the bowl I’ve put a few support stones to prevent the figure from drowning.

The floor was made of riffled cardboard, after  I cut a huge hole in it, it lost all of it’s stability instantly, so I had to reinforce it with thick cardboard stripes and connected the edges. The floor should have a slight gloss and be water resistant so I painted it with a layer clear spar varnish.

Technical Equipmet

For the light, there was my trustworthy 60 x 40 Wallimex softbox from the left, from the right there was a Metz flash set to 1/35 output equipped with wireless trigger, softbox and gel filter. Behind and above there was one china flash set to 1/64 output, equipped with softbox and gel filter, even though I don’t think it pointed in the right direction because of the high background.

An onsen without steam is just a pond, so I also used my mini fog machine, a very cool gadget for scale figures with fog over the water it creates the illusion of steam perfectly.

My Sony a 550 was recently exchanged with the powerful Sony a 77, it’s good to wield a semi pro camera once again. it button placement reminds me of my old 20D.

The summary

Even  though it took months to set my idea into action and some obstacles were quite a pain in the ass, in the end it was fun shoot Sonico within this setup. It’s fun to throw all the review aspects away for some time and just take pictures for fun, passion or admiration for the figure.

What not worked in this setup were  a few minor things that I forgot to test before and, for example the bowl wasn’t high enough so I couldn’t let Sonico sink deep enough to cover her bare boobs with water. I also could have placed a brush or a few of these wooden buckets, the girls throw when men want enter the hot spring, at the sidelines. Good that things always come to mind AFTER the shooting ended. Anyway I’m quite satisfied how this reshoot turned out.

The next “A look back at” might be happen soon, I guess it will be Sansei Muramasa
from Max Factory where  I already gathered most materials and then Sayaka Miki from GSC.

So that is the last post of this kind, to end these vacation posts, I will show you a few of the figure photos I’ve taken during my stay in France. I took three figures with me cause I didn’t want to miss the chance to capture them in these nice south European scenery. It was really hard to decide which figures to pick for the vacation, but these three were the chosen ones.

I mainly took outdoor pictures because of better light conditions. For most pictures I have used my Sigma AF 28mm f/1.8 EX DG lens and to have more freedom with the aperture settings, I used a weak ND filter , one of the advantages of it is that you can work with a reduced the depth of field, it prevents the pictures from being overexposed when working in very bright light.

Haruka Amami

Haruka was my trustworthy companion this 2 weeks, she is good for carrying around and offers a great poseability. Additional to that her cute presence is something really enchanting (>◡<) Even in chibi deformed anatomy you can do all kinds of poses with her thx to long limbs and strong ball joints. The magnet feet turned out very helpful. I had a lot of fun with Haruka.

Takamachi Nanoha

I reviewed her some time ago, but it was also a good decision to take the figure with me to France. On the terrace or next to the pool (it’s really good to have one) Nanoha proved what an exceptional beautiful swimsuit figure she is, I think she looks just stunning outdoor. The nice sculpting of the figures body and face really gets more prominent in nice natural light.

Kanbaru Suruga

The last scale figure girl is Kanbaru, compared to the other two figures I didn’t do much with her, but tried to create something as I discovered an interesting tree. I really like the picture where she is sitting in the oak tree, it wasn’t that easy to find a tree Kanabaru could lean on with her elbow. In terms of location I unfortunately didn’t have that many ideas for this figure, maybe Kanbaru doesn’t like the countryside or I was too lazy to try harder.

Im a passionate figure collector who not only puts the figures on the shelf, I also like taking pictures of  them. I always think about a fitting setting for the pictures to put them in the figure reviews afterwards. Sometimes I also get so so results, that are barely acceptable for me. Especially when looking back at older pictures I sometimes feel a bit dissapointed with some works, be it bad lighting, crappy white balance or a setting looks not as appealing as expected.

Well, everybody started at a certain point and due to improvement trough practical training, it can’t be helped to be slightly dissapointed when looking at earlier pictures. Even nowadays I won’t always created the results I wanted to get. Sometimes I feel the urge to think about better ideas of a setting for a certain figure, finding ideas can be pretty easy or give you a headache.

Between preparing reviews with pictures and text, finding time to take pictures of past figues often comes a bit short, but with the right idea in mind, it can be a rewarding time investment.

At best looking back at a figure and taking her for a new shooting can bring you the joy of trying something new and getting better results compared to the ealier ones. It is a lot of fun.

About the model

Momohime was sculpted by Fukumoto Noritaka, the figure is nicely detailed and has many interesting aspects. I would say Momohime is one of my prettiest figures, her head has a nice shape with a sweet face  and very expressive eyes. This figure convinces in her traditional japanese appearance, her colorful Yokata looks beautfiul. These armor on her give her this light martial touch, I really like the contrast between the petite, pretty girl and rough armor parts.

The idea

The idea behind this shooting was to create something like a Japanese bamboo forest with Momohime walking through a dried out riverbed. The previous indoor shots had a quite artificial look with weird white balance and so this time I aimed to get something more natural.

 Used Materials and Preparations

I already had a few things at home like the little white stones and the pebbles. I only bought the grass and the two foam blocks at an arts and crafts shop. The foam blocks were cut in shape, after that they were wrapped with glue and paper and painted in earth and swampy colors.
A few pebbles received the same paintjob treatment to match the base of Momohime.

After everything dried properly, the foam blocks were ready for step 2, the previously cutted grass was pushed in the foam blocks in a tight pattern. Then I placed everything where I wanted it to be and pinned white and transparent green fabric at the wall behind.

Technical Equipmet

Comparing the new pictures with the old ones is a bit unfair from technical point of view, I guess I even had no flash at that time. For a little fill light I used my trustworthy 60×40 Walimex softbox, for some spotlight I used a bright led bulp. My two wireless flashes were placed randomly, it’s still some kind of gamble for me how the flashes will work in the pictures, even though the new one has a manual mode, one of the flashes was placed high above from behind.

The summary

After weeks of thinking about an idea for a better shooting or better said setting, I finally gathered all needed parts and motivation to get started to let Momohime shine again.
Im quite satisfied with the outcome of my reshoot, it was fitiing surrounding and the light setting helped a lot with creating the desired more natural look in terms of lighting and colors.

Overall aside from all the hassle, it was an rewarding task and Im glad that invested my time to achieve better results than 2010, check this “updated” old post for reference

What not worked in this setup was the fog effect, the little fog machine had no sufficent output to create the desired effect in the rather bright setting, when I think about it, I could have flooded the “riverbed” with water, but water in a room is no good idea and I have no idea how to clean up such a mess. Maybe I will try this in another shooting.
